Fancy getting myself a smartwatch and thought i may get one at a half decent price in the sales.

Any recommendations? Has to be for Android (work phone) so Apple watch is out. Don't really need fitness tracker etc as have a garmin for all my running.

Having a look nobody seems to say, this is the best? They are all sort of average really, any first hand experiences?

Cheers

The missus had an iwatch for a while. Truthfully, they're really annoying with all the notifications etc (yes, you can turn them off, but then it's just a really rubbish looking dumbwatch).

She now wears a dumbwatch and is much happier. smile

I've had a Galaxy Watch for a while now, over 12 months and it's the best Smartwatch I've had. Before this I had a Ticwatch, Apple Watch and a Huawei Watch 2. Apple watch was good but had to ditch that when i decided to ditch ios. Huawei Watch 2 was held back by Wear OS.

Can't see anything better than the Galaxy Watch still, the rotating bezel is great to use. I get 2 days battery life with the display always on and moderate use, you can get 4 days if you turn off the display and use wrist gestures. The watch is also still receiving major updates, including a recent UI overall and is due another major UI update soon (other countries already have it).

Ditto. Tried two different Android-Wear watches and got fed up with the OS not reliably connecting to the phone.

Love my Galaxy watch. Ignore the Tizen-bashing - there are plenty enough apps for what most people will actually use.

Great watch, and it's waterproof, and it works, and it lasts days.

Can't say on the Android front, but have had an iwatch since the 2nd gen (they're on 5 now).

It's a little nicer than having a normal watch, in that you can change the time display to suit preference, and have a few bits like weather etc also showing.

Notifications I've reduced to a minimum, so phone calls, text and that's about it... and I don't get many of either of those.

So do I use the smart stuff? - a little, but not much. Is it better than a dumb watch? - I think so, but not night and day. I think that's probably backed up by the fact I still have and wear it, but equally haven't swapped it for another (iwatch 5 or android), and not sure I think the benefits are relevant to me..

You've already got a Garmin. Don't bother.

If you like your existing Garmin you could always just upgrade to a newer version of that. The latest versions in each series now have all the smart watch stuff as well as all the usual fitness tracking bits. I got mine for the built in MP3 player, but find I use Garmin Pay all the time

I'd echo this and I've got a Galaxy Watch. The reality is that although you can look at notifications on a watch, you still really need 2 hands to scroll through messages etc and I've never liked talking to my watch as it doesn't have Google Assistant but Bixby which is no where near as good. It's usually easier for me to pull my phone out especially if I need a hand free. I'm tempted to go back to the Fenix range after having a Fenix 3.

I did have a Huawei Watch 2 and it was so unreliable and TBH Google don't seem to care about Wear OS. That said, if you really want a smartwatch for Android then the Galaxy Watch range is probably your best bet.

If you want the best Android Smartwatch - then go Samsung. But if you want smartwatch functionality and the best fitness features - go Garmin.

I've had both and kept the Garmin. Notifications are pretty much all I used on the Samsung, and so in my view, it's better to have the superior fitness features.

My current Garmin is the Fenix 3. The reason i want a separate watch is that im a hill/mountain runner and my fenix get's a fair battering, covered in mud, sweat etc and don't fancy having that on my wrist at work and the like!

I'd be tempted with a 2nd hand Fenix 5s then. I'm looking at them now.

I can see why he'd want a spate one for every day use and running it's getting a battering fell running. The newer ones do seem to be pretty tough but I'm mainly using it road and trail running so it's not picked up any scratches yet.

If you're looking at the 5s check how much battery life you want and what the spec on the S is. I've got the 5s Plus (the 5s but with MP3 player, Garmin Pay and Maps) and they get a smaller battery than the standard or X models. I get about 5 days just as a smart watch but probably around 4 or 5 hours with GPS and music on. That's enough for my use but won't suit everyone's needs.

Be different look at zetime

It’s my daily wear ZeTime hybrid smart watch. Real hands and a touchscreen. Sort of a work tool as I can read emails discretely in meetings etc. There are 1000’s of faces but I like this one, I think it suits the watch. Sometimes I have a face based on a Lancaster bomber rev counter.
