I suspect this is just fictional spam, but better safe than safe sorry. > > Subject: POLICE information > > > > > > Dear All > > > > > > Thought this may be of interest - > > > > > > Thames Valley Police are mounting a 6 month speeding campaign from the > 1st > > July, on the M40, M4 and A34. > > > They have been equipped with the following unmarked vehicles - > > > > > > BMW 535I, 1 Silver & 1 Dark Green > > > Seat Cordoba 2.0 VTI in Silver > > > Vectra 2.5 SRI- 1 Black & 1 Red > > > Omega 3.0 SRI- 1 Burgundy > > > Volvo S40 T4- 1 Red > > > Volvo S70 - 1 White > > > VW Bora 2.3 VTI - Red > > > VW Passat VR6 - Silver > > > > > > They will also be using a helicopter between Junctions 4 and 8/9 of the > M4 > > from next Monday for a 2 week period, plus additional mobile speed cameras > > on Bridges around the Maidenhead and Slough junctions. According to the message it should be a few days into the campaign, but so far I''ve seen nothing. I''m trying to get some info from a contact within the TVP but so far nothing.... More likely it was TVP that started the message in the hope it would make people slow down

Appears to be true I have checked it out on www.reading-guide.co.uk/cgi-bin/bnews.cgi?727 and it would appear to be true. If you look on the site it would appear that speeding should be a bit lower down on the list of priorities, but who are we to question? Be careful out there Andy

I received this about 2 weeks ago. This is what the first paragraph on that one said: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Thames Valley Police are mounting a 6 month "raid" (from 1st June) on the M40 / M4 / A34 and have the following "unmarked" vehicles:..... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The rest was mainly the same. If this keep happening then the 6 month period will be 7, 8, 9 etc months!!! Still I suppose it gets the message across. BTW I think that at least some of it is true, as I saw the Omega in question, with a magnetic flashing blue light at the scene of an accident on the M4 at Slough. However, I live fairly close to the M4 in Maidenhead (just north of J8/9), and I haven't seen the Helicopter. Its interesting but I don't think that they are allowed to fly south of the M4 at that point because it is in Heathrow airspace (certainly Balloons aren't) - and as I said I've not seen it. For your further info watch out for a blue Scoobi-doo on the M1 - unmarked apart from 2 blue reversing lights at the rear and 2 behind the grill. Also a blue unmarked Volvo Estate on the M55 around Blackpool - he got me (3 points & £40 - let me off lightly!) Edited by peetee on Thursday 5th July 13:00

I pulled into the M3 Services yesterday lunchtime to see a red Volvo S40, and a while V70 both unmarked, towbars on both, but ball removed.. drivers not wearing ties, just open neck shirts, both cars had a full compliment of ariels on the roof though, and the white V70 was a Y reg. On the A303, they now have Bora V5's and I have seen two Skoda Octavia Turbo Estates running about the place. Jason

if it was for real, then there would probably be something on the thames valley police web site. The only reference to speeding is an mention of drivers being pulled for advice on road safety: check out: http://wood.ccta.gov.uk/tv/tvpress.nsf click on 2nd July 2001 "SPEEDING DRIVERS WARNED TO SLOW DOWN" IMHO the mail is a hoax. VW group don't actually make a car called a Cordoba 2.0 VTI or a Bora 2.3 VTI or Passat VR6 and Vauxhall don't have a car called an Omega 3.0 SRI. I may be wrong, obviously... Rob.
