I'm looking for a supermoto that is at least as quick as my KTM 450 exc
I'm finding it quite hard to find out what models are available
I was looking for a KTM 640 (or 625 / 660) but I'm finding it hard to find a decent one
What else should I consider ?
I don't want to spend too much as I fully expect a few spills
I don't care about age but I'd prefer electric start

Do you want a real Supermoto or something more reliable and easier to maintain?
The proper ones need oil changes and valve clearance checks measured in hours rather than miles. I used to change the oil on my husabergs every 150 or so miles for road use which worked out to about the right amount of hours. I'd check valves every other oil change.
If that's what you want, I can't recommend husabergs enough. I've had a 450 and 2 650s. Nothing else touches the 650 really other than an sxv 550. They're left hand kick start and you need to learn the knack though. They do come with electric starts but earlier models are classed as a restarter and not strong enough to use all the time and from cold. The newer ones can play up but are generally much tougher and can start the bike from cold.
It's easy to start on the kick once you've learned it though

I'm not going to do a huge mileage and I twiddle my own spanners so I'm not too concerned about that BUT I had a LH kick start when I was a teenager - IIRC on a Maico 440 - it's not an experience I wish to revisit.
You had to kick it to death, then it kicked back and ripped my MX boots open and hurt - a lot.
WTF would anyone put a LH kickstart on a bike - then, let alone now ?
(I'm aware a couple of the KTM have them too)

Haha the chain is on the wrong side too so that could be something to do with it. All of mine went first kick hot or cold. Only had to kick mine once when someone had been messing with the throttle and flooded it.
The last one I had I bought with a broken electric start. Fixed it and it would always start on the button but it won't last for ever before needing work on the starter system somewhere.

I used one as main transport for a couple of years, I rode mine only on knobblies though, but I did get the suspension tuned...and it was a) reliable and b) a laugh to ride.
