Coolant filler cap
Discussion
Car is a 340i and I've just had the last service done on the 5 yet are service plan . When they pulled it round for me to drive away it was leaking oil quite badly , turns out it had a cracked oil filter housing , I'm guessing the mechanic was a steroid abuser . They took it back , gave me another car to leave then took 3 days to sort it out .
Anyhow , on driving it away within 20 miles the coolant top light comes on , I topped it up the next morning and it actually took half a kettle full of water , I was expecting it to be a cup full if it had been short filled on topping up at the service . I have noticed that the coolant cap is loose when it's fully tightened, up to lock click and arrows lined up , is this normal ? Almost like the mech has over tightened it and broke the inside off the cap .
To me it doesn't feel correct , but I'm an old school home mechanic .

Sorry I wasn't meant to come across as facetious.
What I meant is if I'd taken my car for a service and issues arose immediately after the service then it would point towards them being at fault in one way or another.
It would certainly be going back there if it were me, and until then I'd not drive the car.
Whatever happens, I hope you get it sorted out with them

No probs , I have made them aware of the problem but as it's the wife's car I couldn't get it back to them straight away .
It's not like it's losing pressure or not making pressure , just seems like the cap is knackered .
I'm guessing as it was the last service on the service plan and it was a more major service they've put the apprentice on it . Not like many people will actually keep their car long enough to get their monies worth out of the 5 year service pack .
The cars out of warranty now , but they flapped when the oil leak appeared after the service , actually spewing oil out onto the tarmac in front of reception, and admitted it was their fault . Not surprised though , not like an oil filter housing would crack by itself !

Not sure if I read you correctly, OP, but if filling up (rather than topping up) coolant, you usually need to open a small vent valve. Open this, top up to fill line, close all, drive around, check and re-top up opening vent valve. My guess coolant was filled without venting the system.
