Not sure why I started thinking of these old films, maybe Xmas. I can recall certain films returning like an old faithful hound, but I haven't seen on the schedules for years, stuff like Bond still gets shown, though we no longer need New Day's Day for them, or SUperman 3 and the like.

But the one that made me start thinking of these older films was Animalympics, it wasn't a brilliant film but it was enjoyable and I'd watch it (or tape it) if it was on. Mad Monster Party was another. Arsenic and Old Lace, which is a classic. I thik te older films that are the very best, seem to get shown every so often, but ones that aren't iconic, or part of the cultural memory, but still very good just seem to be forgotten.
Charley Varrick was mentioned in another thread, but I don't recall that being on more than once anyway. Maybe twice.

What films (forgotten gems?) do people recall being on regularly in years gone by that just stopped at some point?

Charlie and the chocolate factory seems to have been binned off for the newer Tim Burton version of it.

That's a good one, I think I recall that. I enjoyed the book.

I remember the two-up scene on Debs in the locker room as one of the first bits of filth I watched. The memory is more nostalgia than anything remotely exciting now. biggrin

When I was a kid I loved the old black and white films shown on bbc2 at 6pm. The Will Hay and Harold Lloyd were my favourites as well as Norman Wisdom. Never seen any of them on tv for years.

One is Our Dinosaurs is Missing.

Is it no longer shown due to Peter Ustinov made up to look Chinese?

Last time was 10th March this year on TCM, when I recorded it. TCM will show it again if you look out for it.

I remember the Herbie films used to be on all the time, but I haven't seen any or noticed them on for years (though that isn't to say they aren't!)

Haven't they been on the Horror Channel recently? I'm sure one of them was on last week.

I've never seen The Stepford Wives (original) on free to view TV.

I think the Herbie/Love Bug films suffer from rebootitus, whereby the reboots (at least two) move into the tv schedules. Conan suffers from this, everytime I see it on the planner it's, 'yes'! Then I press play to see it's the stty remake.
Love the first three Herbie films.
