will let you know if he comes back with anything

Think Koenigsegg fit carbon wheels to some of their cars.
Believe that company make the wheels themselves.

Have any other car manufacturers started using carbon wheels ?

Mmm...never seen a production road car with them.

I have carbon wheels on my bikes, cycle and motorcycle....made a big difference on motorcycle. Im sure the tech is mature now, why are they not so practical for road cars ? is it just a case of expense vs ease of repair perhaps ?

You can even get small Renault hatchbacks with them, Megane RS Trophy-R, £12k option though taking the price into £60k++, carbon brakes make it £70k. For a Megane.

I had not heard of them before today.

An interesting business. IPO listing last Friday. Share price now up 30%.

“Carbon Revolution is the only company globally to have successfully developed and manufactured single piece carbon fibre automotive wheels to OEM quality standards with commercial adoption across several major OEM models.

They mention an OEM contract for an SUV, which cannot be announced until the vehicle has been launched. - I wonder if ..........

I've seen the Dymag wheels, very nice but about £3k a rim if I remember correctly, and they are quite fragile in respect to kerbs, ok for a trackday toy but not so practical for a road car, although don't Black Badge Rollers have them. scratchchin

The Dymags seem to just have the rim in CF with a main hub in aluminium. The Koenesegg wheels are all CF as are the one in the original post.

Considering the issues we see with the brake discs, I'm not so sure I would want a similar experience with the wheels.

£3k per rim for the Dymags is not that bad, I paid £1k for a pair in magnesium in 1984 for a motorcycle although I had 2 rears crack under normal road use.

The first time I saw them was on a Ford GT being displayed outside the track at the Daytona 500 about 3 or 4 years ago, before the GT was actually released. The wheels were beautiful, absolute works of art even the if the styling was a bit basic.

They can be spec'd on a Pista as well so Ferrari are obviously doing them as well.

I can see the point on something like a Senna or a BAC Mono but not on an Aston Martin.

I agree. Unless losing that weight sheds a decent weight proportional to the car, the only benefit I see is cosmetic or for bragging rights.

The first ones I ever saw were 22" on a Bentley GT at the SEMA show about 6 years ago. TBH, they may have been laminated but the rims certainly looked CF with alloy hubs like the Dymags. They may also have been pre-production or Concept wheels.

Why would either of you care if someone wanted to put them on their Aston or any car for that matter? Would it be any of your business?

Real Carbon fiber laminated onto forged aluminum wheels, but still beautiful.
