Supermarket Christmas delivery slots

Ok I know it's a chavy thing to do by the standards on here, when I should be going to my local butchers, bakers, organic farm shop & micro brewery, but I can't be arsed to do anything but get most of the Christmas crap delivered by one of the chains.

So there I was thinking well I'm 5hrs ahead of the UK so should have no problem booking a delivery slot on the day I want. Come in the office this morning (7am here 2am UK) go to get the slot I want & WTF? There is only 1 slot left everything else has gone already. Clearly there is an army of people staying up late in the UK just to get these precious delivery slots!

To be honest don't blame them one less thing to worry about over Christmas, makes life so much easier.

What about the rest of you? Do you use them at Christmas to save the hassle?

I find Iceland pretty good when it comes to booking a spot

I actually don't mind doing the Christmas shop in person.

Head to the council wonderland (ASDA) around 630am and it tends to be quiet and a nice easy circuit

I booked mine 6 weeks ago for 10am on Christmas Eve. I have a monthly subscription to Morrisons delivery service which gives me priority booking of slots. Only need to finalise the order a couple of days in advance and buy a nice Christmas joint somewhere else which may well be another rib of beef from Costco

Got mine coming on the 22nd december. I’m only doing boxing day though at mine.

Booze delivery coming this evening.

Just had a look at Tesco for me; every slot bar 8 from 105 is available for week Mon 16 - Sun 22. Can't get to Xmas week, maybe that's already booked up.

Tesco offered priority booking for 'delivery saver' subscribers and even with that I got the last Sunday slot available on the morning they became available. I don't think they were doing Christmas Eve, didn't last year iirc. AIUI people book for Christmas Eve, turkey, the lot, then if they're out of stock it's 'all their fault'.

That being said, since they've gone bagless I'm trying other supermarkets, as well as still using local shops.

As my wife just pointed out, part of the problem, may be that being miles away from any store there are far fewer slots available to us.

Added to which they will probably need to put on a special artic for the amount I'll probably be told to order.

Ocado slot was done months ago.

Stick a couple of bottles of expensive booze in the basket so hold the slot. Near Christmas Ocado phone up and say "Do you really want that booze, or are you reserving that slot?". Guess it makes it awkward for them to order from their supplier when lots of people stuff expensive stuff in their basket to hold a slot, then remove it at the last minute to order what they really want.
