... be aware that they've changed their terms (apparently in March this year) and rather than charge the charities, they now default to including a "voluntary donation" to themselves when you donate to something. I didn't notice until I got the email receipt.
Very annoyed - it shouldn't be allowed to default this kind of stuff to "included" - you should have to take action to include it if you want to. Thieving gits.

A small donation seems reasonable to run the platform etc - AFAIK, they took about 5% from the donations prior to this change, so maybe it works better for the charities?
I have no problem with it benefiting the charities. I think it is a better way.
What annoys me is that it defaults to 'on' - and it is still a percentage.
I don't want to get into amounts, but where I'd be happy to have contributed a few quid as a fee, the fact that it's percentage based means their fee was significant.

In case anybody else makes the same mistake I did :
I asked them to refund the charge - they said they couldn't do that, but since I contacted them quickly they were able to refund the entire amount so that I could make the donation again - and this time either remove the charge, or alter it to a more reasonable amount.
It took a few days, but the refund appeared over the weekend.

Frankly what do you expect if you use an intermediary? They are in it to make money which will by definition come out of what you want to donate. It's typical 21st century 'Oh let's start an internet business and grab a percentage'. So if you want to donate to a charity, just send the charity the money then you won't have to burn up time trying to sort out s
