Sat here thinking about the residuals of the Gallardo coupe, now that the spider is on the horizon...

With used G's already representing good value for money at the moment, I can see them becoming an absolute bargain.

With the 06 Murci, rumoured to have 600 BHP, this'll push used Murci residuals down, which in turn will push the G car further.

I don't think they have the "supercar" presence of the Murci, but I'd love to pick up a three year old one to rag about!

Thoughts..?

See that's the problem with cheap italian supercars. Cheap Italian = oxymoron.

The purchase price may decrease to affordable levels but you've still got clutch, brakes, servicing etc to consider which can cripple the layman.

Absolutely. But with the Audi backing it has to be a better bet long-term than an equivalently cheap f-car... hasn't it?

My e-gear clutch is still working perfectly at 25,000km.

Some may have quit earlier but to say they last 5k miles "at best" is incorrect.

know of 1 car which lasted 400miles and atleast 5 in the trade which have gone within 3-4000 miles.

Obviously down to driving styles etc

Was told at the Spyder preview that the expected life of the Gallardo clutch (both manual and e-gear) was approx 10,000 miles...

so you're thinking of running a 360, a murci and a gallardo too?

More on running costs...

Just had my 24,000km service (15,000m) which cost $US1,200. No brake pads yet - the dealer said plenty of wear left.

Given the heavy depreciation, I would think the Gallardo might be a better bet than some other exotics as a second hand buy. Depreciation is easily the biggest expense, followed by insurance, petrol and tyres. Dealer servicing is a comparatively low cost (apart from the clutch issue). Given that buying secondhand fixes much of the depreciation problem, the car becomes a pretty good proposition, IMO.

Also, it is a great drive, feels unbreakable and still feels special after plenty of almost daily use. I'm a happy owner and would recommend the model.

Maybe... not sure to be honest...

I'm toying with the idea of a Murci Roadster. Realistically, I won't be able to buy a new one, so I'm going to have to wait a couple of years for them to come on the used market for a decent price.

I eluded to it earlier in that, I may offload the Murci before the higher powered 06 model comes out to save getting a big clobbering on residuals.

The Gallardo would be a stop gap...

Having said that, It may be the 360 to go. But I really love the howl of the Tubi with the roof off. I can't see myself in the market for a 430 Spider any time soon, so I'm going to try to keep it as it's in such good condition (2001, 12,000 miles)and has a lovely spec.

I dunno, I'm just chuffed I'm in this position.

Hold onto your hat for 360 depreciation!
