Getting v5 for a 1963 car without number stamped on chassis

restoring a 1963 cortina that went to ireland and was given an irish ZV numberplate, so has lost its original british number
Car has full chassis number plate that is rivetted on to the car, and I have pictures of that plate pre-restoration showing that belongs to that body
We could find no number stamped to the shell
There is meant to be a number on the top suspension mount, but on a 1963 ford there is very little original top suspension mount

Does anyone know the rules of when a number stamped on the chassis (rather than pop riveted on a plate) became mandatory. DVLA are insisting on a number stamped on the chassis, but I am really not sure that that was "the rule" in 1963

Apologies if my question is stupid but assuming the car and chassis late belong togetger, what stops you stamping the number on yourself?

Ask the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust?

Their "Heritage Certificate" could authenticate the car's origin and that it was exported to Ireland.

I had the same issue with a Jaguar - not the Irish registration- but the DVLA have a list of "approved" owners clubs and they provided a letter to say the car was authentic,etc and i got the V5 in two days!

I'm not sure it was either. Certainly the engine number was often stamped back then, but could be a plate, IIRC.

If DVLA are insisting on a chassis stamp why rock the boat - just get it stamped up. There are plenty of horror stories of cars losing their originality due to the DVLA not been able to see a stamped chassis number.

Any 60's/70's era Ford that has been restored/repaired will no longer have it's stamped chassis number as it would have disappeared when new inner wings were fitted or strut tops repaired with top mount reinforcing plates......so that's probably about 85+% of those remaining then

I imported a 63 car from Sweden and the chassis number was on a plate riveted to the bulkhead. It was not a problem not having it stamped. Maybe there would be something you can get from the manufacturer?
