Q3 headlights

On my 2013 Q3 S-line the dipped beam is set too low but there is no headlight range control thumbwheel.
Does this mean Xenon bulbs are fitted and are adjusted automatically with the load being carried? I also have the Led strip surrounding the unit.

They're self-levelling but the units themselves can be adjusted; an MOT tester is the fastest/cheapest way to ensure they're in check.

do the lights do the self check when you start up?

no experience of Q3 headlights but I've had led and xenon lights on other VW group cars and they do a self check when you start up.
