L3 Wedge Fracture

My mother-in-law hurt her back 8 weeks ago. The pain has got increasing worse, but due to NHS policy (painkillers only) a diagnosis was only possible a few days ago.

She has a L3 wedge fracture, almost certainly caused by osteoporosis.

Now she has a consultant appointment, but that is over a month away. She’s faced with debilitating pain in the meantime and we are concerned about the condition worsening.

Any PH doctors have any words of wisdom? We are considering whether she should go private.

The osteoporosis is now being treated, but that only started seven weeks after the initial injury. Painkillers hardly make any difference, so she is now on morphine from tonight.

Apparently nothing like that in this area. Two GP appointments and several phone calls to the hospital have elicited nothing more than pain killers and the January appointment.

Will have a google though, cheers for replying

Thanks for this. I tracked down the clinic and emailed in. A quick response that this would be triaged in the next consultant meeting. That’s on the 13th and they will then let us know if the case can be expedited. Crazy system and not the first time the NHS has failed us in 2019 :-(
