Having bought a baby Stilton each year for, well, years we stumbled across Harrogate Blue in Tebay services in October 2018. Utterly sold by its taste and texture we bought a full (1.4 kg) truckle from the makers, Shepherd’s Purse cheeses. It was gone by Hogmanay, unlike the baby Stiltons of previous years. We’ve done the same again this year and I’m embarrassed to say that we’ve eaten half of it already! We love it, the teenage children love it. I’m sold. No more Stilton here.

My tactic to avoid eating all the Christmas cheese is not to have it home at home for a last another couple of weeks!

Godminster have a Black Friday offer each year and this year it was a 3 cheese selection:

Looking forward to trying the new black truffle cheddar for the first time.

I'm still trying to find somewhere local to buy Tiddly Blue. First found it in Kent, which is where the wholesaler is based. Ironically it's made in Cheshire, so close to home but no sources up here after speaking to the wholesaler.

I think that the ultimate Christmas cheese is Vacherin de Mont d'Or. Managed to get some this morning, but it all sells out in a flash. Simply amazing, sublime seasonal cheese and only available around now.

My wife loves Y Fenni cheese. It’s almost impossible to get off the shelf anywhere.

About 10 years ago I was determined to get her some for Christmas, I had to buy a whole 5kg (I think) wheel. It took us ages to eat it. It was ace.

Have already started on the cheese, had some ASDA Extra Special Brie last night and it was surprisingly very nice indeed!

I've been watching re-runs of Jamie Oliver's Christmas (yeah I know) on the Food Channel.
One idea was to make dough balls and arrange them around a baking Camembert in the shape of a Christmas tree. After 30 mins in the oven, you dip the dough balls into the melted cheese.

Oh my.

The OH was at a food fayre and purchased these cheeses. As we will be away at Xmas I have started on them with the Laphroaig and sadly I am not too impressed. It isn't terrible but the flavour is confused, a bit bitter and doesn't really give up the peaty flavour.
Hopefully the Curry inspired one will be better. The OH can eat the Gin one.

Crikey. I cannot for the life of me see either Laphroaig or gin working with cheddar style cheese. Gin and goat cheese - maybe.

There’s Stilton and there’s Stilton though. A Colston Basset is hard to beat but plenty of supermarket stuff is unremarkable. The Stilton Cheesemakers Association logo can be found on them all and doesn’t seem to be a mark of quality.

The one we always go for is Montgomery Cheddar. Not like a regular cheddar but sweet and nutty, and fantastically moreish. We always have Stilton left over after Xmas but never the Montgomery. Pricey, but worth it.

Mine should arrive Sunday lunchtime. Sister lives in the Jura and always brings one over.

Brillat-Savarin is another good Christmas cheese.

No pressure then on people just thinking of buying that £9.99 cheese ensemble from Asda then

I'm going to put on my sports casual jacket on and wander off down to Aldi's later .....

I'm hoping they have got some vintage Swiss Cantonese produce out of a metal milking bucket this year as they did last.

Don't get me started on the original post which really plumbed the depths of baby v non baby Stiltons even when a cheese cannot have offspring....

It reads just like a sales promotion for one brand of "baby" stiltons rather than others....
