The issues you describe all points to there being a problem with the car.

Depends on the model. If it’s a 3.1 rev 2 or later, spratchet wear Is more likely.

Good point, I assumed it was the 12-valve 4.5 cylinder engine.
Maybe a piston return spring has broken and jammed one of the wedge-collets? Problem is you'd have to remove the sump-basket to check for that so it's a fairly involved job.
