Focus ST MK4, Fiesta ST MK8 or i30N Hatch

Looking for other opinions on the 3 cars I've now shortlisted as my next car.
I'm currently in an M140i which is now at the end of its warranty. So come March I'll be handing it back. I've been commuting via train so only used the 140 really to get to my gym down the back rounds and a few weekend trips etc. I'm looking to change that and start commuting. There are also plans for a family so I need to reduce my monthlies (Will be buying on PCP).
I've been planning my next car for a long time, but due to the negative equity in the 140 I'm having to wait. In the mean time, my mind keeps changing. I just can't settle on one! 2 weeks ago I was 100% getting the i30N, but now I'm leaning towards the Focus ST.
Little bit of criteria for my next car:
- It's gotta be a fun hot hatch. I want to do some track days.
- I currently commute via train, I'd like to change that so it needs to be more economical than my 140.
- Needs to sound nice. I know it's never going to sound as good as a straight 6 but the cars on my list still supposedly sound good.
- It needs to be cheaper
- Doesn't try to plough through hedges as soon as the roads get slightly moist
- Potentially a family wagon (Plans of starting a family)

Pros:
Looks awesome in Performance Blue. And those alloys
Cheaper than my 140 because of the low APR

Deals aren't too bad on Carwow and Drivethedeal.

Cons:
3 years warranty only still. Why have manufacturers not increased this to compete with KIA and Hyundai?
I've had a Focus ST before

Quality and service. My wife has a MK8 Fiesta. It's been in for warranty work 4 times in 18 months. Every time we get terrible service no matter where we take it. Makes me wonder how much of it is the dealer and how much of it is Ford.

There's also a 4th car I have my eye on. The new M135i xDrive. I've driven one and although the engine is not a patch on the B58, it's still a good car. The launch on it is insane and the interior is a nice place to be. It's a bit expensive but I know someone who can get me a good deal. If that "good deal" is close to the cost of these others, I'll be snapping it up.
So looking what your thoughts are. Anyone else looking at these cars and able to chip in with an opinion or additional info?

I counted out the Focus because at the time it was way too expensive and the Fiesta was just too small for me although I've heard a lot of people singing it's praises
I would have gone all in on the I30N if it wasn't for the fact my best mate bought one before me and I couldn't bring myself to have the same car as him just on principal. I30N deals are cropping up all the time at the minute (I've seen one deal for under £300 inital and under £300 a month payments)
I eventually FTK'd on a cupra but when I compared the Focus and the I30N, the I30N won it for me
mainly because of it's uniqueness, turns a lot more heads than a Focus

Although I'm a Ford man myself I'd say go for the i30N looking at your post.
As a previous MK3 Focus ST owner I found the car too heavy for track days, I tried it a couple of times and ended up buying a cheap Mk6 Fiesta ST for track.
You day yourself the Mk8 Fiesta is too small so not too sure why it's still on your list which leaves the i30N

And Technically no you can't track a PCP car (depending on the terms in the agreement), but there's ways to go about it.
Having only moved house a month or 2 ago, unfortunately I can't get the deposit together that I wanted. Either way, £360 a month is saving me a good chunk on what I'm paying currently.

This is exactly why the i30N is on the list and the reason I'm struggling to decide. The Fuel economy and the high APR is what's putting me off the most tbh, but also the fact that it's not quite got the performance of the Focus. In fact it's only .4 quicker to 60 than the Fiesta. The Megane RS was on my list but got booted off for a couple of reasons. I hear bad things about the 4 wheel steering and I'm not a massive fan of the looks tbh.And Technically no you can't track a PCP car (depending on the terms in the agreement), but there's ways to go about it.

Yeah I've been talking to some dealers and managed to get a 4 year PCP deal, £1500 down at £360 a month. The Focus I can get on a 3 year deal for the same monthlies dues to the lower interest rate. I'm not a fan of leasing. I'm hoping this car will last me longer than the duration of the PCP term as if we are joined by a little one, it's unlikely I'll be able to justify getting another brand new hot hatch or similar.Having only moved house a month or 2 ago, unfortunately I can't get the deposit together that I wanted. I'm a long term SEAT owner/enthusiast who has worked around the BTCC/WTCC teams over the years and enjoyed many a track day in my own SEAT's + SEAT staff cars etc. Although I currently own a Porsche now.
But If I was looking at Hot Hatches right now, I would be getting the i30N performance. I was invited down to Millbrook for a day with Hyundai Sport ages ago and the car was cracking fun and for a 2.0T sounds very well. On the handling circuit it was insane with a pro driver (ex-BTCC) behind the wheel.
Leon Cupra, Focus St, Fiesta ST are all common, as is the Golf R... but the i30N you don't see as often so for me I would get it for that.

Personally, having driven the Fiesta ST (which, to be fair, I thought was a pretty great step on the Mk7, which I have currently) but not the other two, I'd get the Civic Type R. I had a go in one yesterday - what a machine.

The current loyalty deal has meant that my partner having a Hyundai brought my i30N Performance deal down to £1.5k deposit, £296/month with 12k miles, oh and that's just over two years! 3 years was slightly more per month with same deposit, 48months was £286/month.
The only requirement is to be able to provide a V5 for a hyundai vehicle that is registered to the same address that you're setting up your PCP.
One of the guys on here posted about it a month ago and I chased up on it, he didn't have a Hyundai so went and bought himself the cheapest Getz on AutoTrader for £250 and was given £150 trade-in for it, not bad when it nets you a £3,250 discount.
It's also worth baring in mind that Hyundai, unlike Ford, still hold up their 5 year 100k warranty inclusive of track use!

I have. It took me a long time but I finally settled on the Hatch over the Fastback. Mainly due to residuals. GMFV on the Hatch is much higher than the fastback, resulting in higher monthlies for the FB version. Test drove it when it came out, absolutely loved it. Chucked it round a round-about and it was like it was on rails. Problem is that high APR and minimal discounts puts it out of reach financially, otherwise it would be a no brainer.I appreciate this is not a helpful or vastly on topic response. I've had a chat with a friend who works at BMW. I can get the M135i xDrive for the same price as the i30N. Would be silly not to imo. Bit of a step down engine wise but what I expected. Slight change to the exhaust and it should sound good...I hope. Might need to go for another test drive...

The current loyalty deal has meant that my partner having a Hyundai brought my i30N Performance deal down to £1.5k deposit, £296/month with 12k miles, oh and that's just over two years! 3 years was slightly more per month with same deposit, 48months was £286/month.

In terms of the OP, I've just gone from a Cupra 300 to the i30N. Not sure where you've seen the infotainment being pants, it's pretty decent and better than the one I had in the Leon. Carplay works a treat as well.
Not driven it long but the fuel economy is indeed, crap. averaged 20-30 on a long pretty sedate drive. Definitely get a look in for the loyalty offer, loads of crap ~£300 getz floating about and a lot of savings to be had.
I'd go for the Fiesta. Friend has one and I think it's brilliant. Suspension slightly better than the mk7 (I owned one).
The i30N suspension was just "too hard" for me on an extended test drive. I decided to keep my m135i (which is arguably more economical than the i30N based on owner feedback). Makes a fun noise though.
Wouldn't be considering the Focus at all if it were me.

Thanks for the info. Did some enquiring today but according to the dealer I'm chatting to, to qualify for the loyalty deal the car needs to be ordered and delivered before the end of Dec. Don't see why not? Is it different to just driving it fast on the road. Of course, if you bin it (pretty unlikely) then you've probably bought it but TD insurance may cover you? I know of a few people who track leased/financed cars.Frimley111R said:

I know that for a leased car it's against the T&Cs, understandably but that may be different on a PCP. It's subjective but I can't bring myself to like the new Ford's. The Fiesta looks dull and the Focus looks very fussy.
On holiday, recently, I came out to see two i30Ns, one black and one red. Photos don't do it justice, it's a great looking car. I didn't like the pale blue in photos but, in the flesh, it's very nice indeed and I love the wheels and it's now my favourite and there are certainly lots to choose from. You also have the Fastback option.
So it would be the i30N for me, despite the very conservative interior and lack of USBs in the back (though it has a rear camera). The Focus will be a better car, no doubt but it's expensive.
