Ok, the slog to get my car back on the road continues...

Whole host of things need to be sorted for MOT, one of which is "excessive play in steering column". I figure it has to be the bulkhead bush, but I spoke to RT this morning and he says they are not available at all and an alternative solution needs to be found.

Has anyone come up with a solution before? Any other available bushes that can be made to fit?

Have a look here www.tvrwedgepages.co.uk/ at the maintenance section. Great write up about replacing the bush with a proper bearing.

David Geralds still had the bushes available when I changed mine last year.
Did get the wrong size to start with so worth checking diameter of shaft

Had mine replaced at Offords recently.

Mind you, i've only just noticed that the steering column won't adjust anymore

I need to investigate this, maybe it's just *stiff*

Thanks all.

Just rang David Gerald and now have one one the way. A shade over a fiver. I think the article on the Wedge Pages looks good though. Maybe something to do in the future when I have more time on my hands and I'm not waiting for an MOT.

Getting there...one step at a time.

Are you sure its not the steering rack... They do wear out on the 280, Ford cortina and they are very cheap to fit. Re conditioned ones are about 45 quid
