Recent MOT changes and putting in modded car for said MOT

Hey Everyone,
I am hoping someone can help clarify some items on this...
My car is due to go in for MOT and it is running boosted power levels (all work done by a recognised and respected tuner). The previous owner however put a decat rather than a sports cat on it and get it all as it should be. It is time to fix that as it makes me feel bad anyhow.
However, having spoken to the tuner, they are saying that due to MOT changes, nothing but bone stock will pass? I can't see this being quite correct as the tuning scene would die overnight.
What's the reality of getting an MOT on a modified performance vehicle.

There's a visual inspection too, if the vehicle was built fitted with a cat, then it must have one for the MOT. If the decat pipe looks like a cat then it will probably be ok. Some testers may be more picky than others. The fact that it might pass emissions without is irrelevant. If the engine is meant to have a cat in original spec then it must be there ( visual check). If no tuning mods and cat removed then it is an automatic fail, irrelevant to emissions being in spec.. I don’t think the tuning mods exempt the need for a cat.
You might get away with it if you have a fake cat visible or even a heatshield sealing off where the cat should be and emissions are OK. What about Lambda sensors pre and post cat ( my car has both) ? If they should be there then that is another clue to check.

A mate had a similar car to me and de-catted it. He had a “sympathetic” MOT tester! I wondered what would be the outcome if he was involved in a nasty crash and the car was inspected by police/ insurer.

Doesn't the MOT also now check for 'check engine' lights on the dash?
If this was triggered due to lack of cats, and has been coded out, will the 'check engine' light still be there when you first turn it on?
