Any idea if the WADA Russian sporting ban will knock on to sotchi?

Is F1 even covered by wada?

Looks like hopefully not. Although.. if for whatever reason FOM would like to retire Russia from the calendar, this would give them a reason to break whatever agreements they have in place - that they would have inherited from Ecclestone's days. No real reason to think that though, so I'd expect it will go ahead as they say.

Looks like if Russia appeals they will just run out the present contract and then not be able to renew if Russia looses it appeal.
Because if Russia appeals the ban won't come in to effect until the appeals process is finished if Russia looses and that could take a couple of years.

Looks like F1 should be safe for at least as long as the current contract between FOM and Sotchi is in place - they just have to demonstrate it's not practicable or reasonable in the public interest etc etc to break the contract.

So the real question becomes... How long is Sotchi under contract for with FOM? Once it's no longer a 'pre-planned and agreed event', I can't see how it can continue for whatever years of the ban remain at that point.

Another consideration is 'its Russia', whats the betting they find a way to encourage WADA to have a change of heart... Maybe reduce the term of the ban or make certain exceptions.. That last bit might sound a bit far fetched - but keep in mind we're talking about a country whose army pulls on plain unmarked uniforms and invades entire countries, whilst the Kremlin claims they know nothing about it and that all their soldiers are at home with their feet up whistle
