Restoring an A5 Motorway Milage Monster....

Hi all,

first post here - been looking to learn and interact with some like minded car folk!

Last August (4 months ago), I picked up this 2011 Audi A5 Coupe (Black Edition 2.0 TDI) for less than 9,500 Euros in Ireland.




She had 145,000 miles on the clock but was in absolutely stunning condition inside and out. Previous owner was a doctor who owned the car in the UK and she spent most of her life on the M11 from her history. She was serviced every 8,000 miles since new and was well taken care of. Irish guy brought her into Ireland and within 2 years decided it wasn't to his liking anymore.

Since I got hold of it, I've done the following for around 2,000 Euros:

- New Clutch/DMF (13 hour job)
- New Alternator Belt / New Idler Pulley
- New Front Left Caliper (other one seized)
- Major Service
- Paint Restoration in 1-2 areas from stone chips
- New Power Steering Pump

About to hit 150k miles and she's going better than ever. Front right suspension has a worn control arm bushing that'll need to get done soon but the part is cheap enough, should be an OK job.

Looking to get her TTRS Alloys (19 inch) restored and have the blades painted in gloss black (love the blacked out look) and maybe go for a caliper painting too, what colour you guys think?

Wheels go for standard look.

For the suspension, go for quality parts - sometimes Audi work out reasonable and if its the top arms buy the bolts.

So used to it myself man that I've never come close to scraping (thank god) so far.

Is the engine missing from the first pic? The car looks very high off the ground?

Silver calipers would look good and oem. Especially as it doesn’t appear to have an fancy brakes on it.

Sounds like a good buy! Nice work. Always liked those black edition A5’s - great looking cars.

Might be worth looking to upgrade the brakes if you want them to look good through the wheels - I reckon the standard ones look a bit small. Must be some upgraded brakes from an S5 or TTS that could be fitted with larger discs for not too bad a cost - I may be wrong though. May just look a bit sharper once the wheels are back in shape.

I always thought these were very good looking cars. I think they have aged well too. I had a look at new ones this week and I don’t think the new ones are as nice on the outside as yours.

I like yellow callipers.

The facelift on these was decent although something about it never fully got my fancy. The new A5 Coupes just aren't good looking with that 'humpy' hood design and over chromy grill. I don't like the modern Audi OEM alloys either on them.
