Very sad. He was reckoned to be a genuinely nice chap.

Such a shame. He was a great chap and a true environmentalist.

Very sad news indeed, a national treasure his programmes fascinated me as a child.

Often quite literally imitated but never bettered.

RIP, your TV shows were wearly wonderful!

He said 'Climate Change is Poppycock!' and that was the end of his career.
Sad.
But that's what happens when a gravy train rolls, they chuck anyone off who get's in the way of their propaganda.

It all started back in 1996 when he let rip about 'wind farms' on Blue Peter - from that moment on he was no longer welcomed by the 'impartial' Beeb.

Then he made his 'poppycock' statement in the early 2000s and that was the final career goodbye. He was even spat on in the street by sick bds.

RIP David.

(Nice. Using his death to make a point.)

A genuine joy to watch on TV.

Another memorable character from my childhood. Shame, he seemed (and was apparently) a really genuine, passionate guy.

Moreso than some of todays "personalities".

Same here. Back in the day he was on tv more than Attenborough.

I did wonder why his light dimmed, and the TV appearances dried up.

RIP David.

Shame the BBC shunned him for political reasons. He was a great TV personality

Drove a lotus seven as well. Used to visit my dads antique shop in the seventies and came over as a genuinely nice man. Decent innings to be fair. Badly treated when he had the temerity to express views which differed to the lemmings

An infectious enthusiasm. I remember his videos being played in our class in the 80s. Probably my something to with my interest in Geography and plants.

RIP David.
I find it telling that even in that article they say his career ended when he said " Global warming " was poppycock, but in summing up at the end of the article they change it to "climate change".
Much like the rest of the establishment, when global warming predictions didn't happen, the gravy train changed it to the more vague climate change.

When he adverised the perils of booze on TV in the 80's for the Government,
I worked in Newcastle at The County Hotel, opposite the Train Station.
He would regularly come in and get wasted on Bells Whisky. When I joked with him about it, he said "They pay me a packet to say that" !
A really nice/funny bloke.
Glad I met him.
