Is your council a clean-air hypocrite?
Discussion
Interesting but if there's no electric alternative, what are they supposed to collect our waste in?

EV Waste Lorries exist: https://www.veolia.co.uk/press-releases/veolia-tri...Sambucket said:
Why does PH have such a boner for hypocrisy? Easier to attack than defend?
It is not an attack, its a counter to an attack made by the council, they are making a huge fuss about carbon and are costing us the public money to comply but they are exempting themselves. Hypocrisy needs to be called out.

If the only pickups available are diesel (for example) then what else should they buy ?

Doesn't that same issue apply to other road users in the council areas? How many businesses that also need pickup trucks are they disrupting? Will they be providing exemptions for them too?

I don't know whether it's hypocrisy, failed logic or something else.

It's air quality, not carbon. Arguing against improving air quality is an odd position to take.Hypocrisy needs to be called out.

Funny how money will let you pass....
We pay to drive our 6 year old lorry in Central London, if they were honest and said look, we need the money so its a toll then we would not be having this discussion, we see loads of 10+ year old buses and municipal vehicles in London when we are there, all exempt.
Its hypocrisy.
Demand one thing of the paying public while carrying on regardless.

Example being "ban all diesels" to hit the headlines & win over the popular vote... Then quietly withdraw the idea when they realise the own goals they would score & cost to implement.
Blindly following & taking politicians at their word is a daft thing to do.

If and when they need replacing look for the best alternative then.

They could replace all their vehicles, but 'the paying public' would have to pay for that too. They could implement the charges on their municipal vehicles but again, who pays? Demand one thing of the paying public while carrying on regardless.
Would you feel better if your council sold off their fleet and replaced it all with electric or hydrogen vehicles?

Its a tax, on top of all the other tax I pay to work.
Meanwhile, municipal vehicles which are there all the time and not just once every few weeks are exempted to stink up the place, all day, every day.
The Buses even get a fuel discount.
Councils have always been “do as I say, not as I do - and btw f
k off, it’s lunchtime and we’re closed!”
I used to deal with a few councils in a previous job role... there were some decent folk of course, but on average the cluelessness, lack of pace, inability to run basics maths and arrogance towards their ‘customers’ was on another level vs anything I ever saw in a private / public company.

Arrogance being top of the list

I’d say my council is a clear air hypocrite for its love of “traffic calming” measures. These measures just mean stop start traffic which reduces people’s fuel economy, creates more tyre and brake dust pollution and damages everyone’s vehicles (including the councils). https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-news/108622/is-y...

Surely they would be worthless.
The local councils round here have jumped on the antidiesel bandwagon, charging excessive extra tolls for parking essential diesel vans when I've been trying to buy a "clean" alternative for years, with no success as nothing available! Its all about SUVs and supercars which are of course far more essential to the urban environment than delivery trucks and tradesman vans!
Meanwhile they're reengineering roads to cause more traffic jams - Highbury corner and archway are two examples where they've made pedestrian plazas out of part of MEGA BUSY ARTERIAL ROAD roundabouts and created traffigeddon, tons of diesel fumes for people to breath in while they enjoy their new pedestrian space!
Honestly makes no logical sense at all.
