Does anyone have any decent techniques for crisping edges up in Photoshop?

Typically for when things like curves have been expanded and pixellate....example below.

Redraw the item using the vector tools (pen, shapes etc). Just enlarging bitmaps creates fuzziness and introduces artefacts into the image as photoshop does it’s best to interpret the pixel data.

If there was a tool or button to press that would magically fix the issue, it would be the most used button in the app laugh

I figured that was the best idea... But no harm. In asking around biggrin

Have managed a slightly better version using blurs, refining selection edges and strokes. Will see what it prints out like before spending time with lines...

Agreed. Apologies if my reply came across as condescending, wasn’t intended.

It didn't. Don't worry (same for mine smile).

If you also have Illustrator you can make the path and then use 'Simplify Paths' to remove excess anchor points. Will still need tweaking to fit perfectly, but it does a lot of the work for you.

Don't know why this hasn't been added to Photoshop yet (although it's probably to make you subscribe to 2 apps instead of 1).

You can do similar in Photoshop with paths and strokes...it's quite clunky though (aka needs practice to know what the curves will do when you add and move anchors).

The cynic in me agrees with you.

I guess the reality is that Photoshop is bitmap oriented whereas what I really want to do is vector manipulation (as noted above). Fundamentally different things.

There's only so much you can do with clever maths I suspect.

Thanks guys. Just done a little more fiddling and think I may get away with it at the physical size I need.

The Pro solution is to redraw with the pen tool as a vector.
A rougher version would be too select the area, then use the Refine Edge tools to smooth the selection. Results arent as perfect but it is quicker.
If it is a logo, I would say it is a must to convert it to vectors.

Once you get used to the pen tool and how to edit/add/remove anchor points it is very quick to use.

Agreed.

It's for a number on the back of a football shirt for a 4yr old...so the refining edges piece will do for now smile

Am looking for the current England numbers/squad...and these are only officially done for the full sized or youth kits as far as I can see. Which are too big.

Of course this does go against my "it's for a 4yr old so he'll never notice" angle...and that would be a fair challenge. My own OCD struggles though smile (And he has an elder brother who is bound to notice/say something smile).
