Data recovery software recommendations
Discussion
Family member has asked me to take old video clips off an old camcorder. It has an inbuilt HDD and connects via USB. The device is about 10 years old. Its a SONY handy cam.
When you put the device on it gives an error message and connecting it to the PC shows nothing. The device was formatted within the camera (I understand that usually this can still lead to file recovery)
I've tried a couple of bits of software to see if any files can be recovered. I tried Recuva and Paragaon - they recognize there is a disk drive there but cannot find any files..
Anyone recommend any other software before we declare it a loss?
I did wonder whether taking the HDD out of the camcorder and connecting it directly to the PC would help but the only way to do it is to buy a caddy which connects via USB so I don't see how it will make any difference.

Try https://www.isobuster.com which has been around for a great many years and the developer continues to improve it.
I have used the software in the past to recover photos on a CD that hadn't been closed so can vouch that it is pretty good.
Hope this helps
