Anyone know anything about salvage value? One of my mates embedded his triumph 595 daytona into this stupid bint's car when she pulled out on his some 20 miles from the chunnel on friday (d'oh). It's all going his way insurance-wise but we just wondered how much he'd have to pay to get the remains back.

I haven't got the picture handy but it smashed the fairing, bent both forks, bent the wheel, blew the tyre, popped the hoses from the rad but the rad looks ok, destroyed the clocks and the bars but the rest of it looks fine. It had done about 30k I think and I think it was a 99. He's fine by the way. It's currently stored near calais awaiting inspection.

Thanks,

Mark

i wrote off a bike back in 89 or so - twas only a year old
salvage value was roughly a third of the new price
in your "mate's" case i would say (guess) he could have it for around 1500 if it's written off (which it will be)

I dont know- but would think not a lot, mate offered me his mint 595 a while back, similar miles £2500.

Would have thought sub £1k as it is?

From my car experience, to buy back the salvage for a finacial write off, of a 93 BMW 530i insured for £3K, they wanted £600 odd. Bought it back did it up and made £700 out of it. But it will be awkward to sell with it's history.
I think it was called a catagory C write off as in just not finacially worth it. Do check for this.

I didn't buy back the salvage from a different plank knocking me of my ZXR400H2 as the engine went funny - too many ?'s. But i don't think they would have wanted much more than £400 for it as they only gave me £1250 for the total loss of it. It was insured for £2000.

My wife used to work for General accident and the insurance ombudsman - so she knows all the ins and outs, and can fill me in on any other stuff for you.

Main thing to check first, is that it is at worst a cat' C write off and that your insurance are happy to cover it again once it is fixed. They'll probably want it to go through an MOT first.

If I can help any further either on this thread or use my email on my profile.

Ok thanks guys.

A complication is that it's in france so he'd also have to pay quite a bit to transport it back.

We thought we could simply throw the fairing away, get some new forks, a wheel and a light and track it.

Sorry I meant to stick a picture on this thread last night but I forgot.
