Am I the only one today to be slightly amazed that BBC 6 o’clock news deemed it worthy of mention that Caroline Flack, (Z list ITV presenter for those who have no clue) who has been charged with allegedly beating up her boyfriend last week, and hence isn’t appearing on the latest “love island”

I mean seriously? With the amount of st going on in the world currently... punch

Has Kamal Ahmed been on the Sherry at lunchtime?

They will have data that shows that's what some people are interested in.

They will balance the news to encourage as many viewers as they can.

You can't argue with the data. You don't find it interesting, but there will be other matters that you do. TV programmes are not all for you, or me or anyone. They are, in theory, for everyone.

The data dictates.

I think it's one of the biggest TV shows around, so lots of people probably are interested.

And sometimes people just want to enjoy a story that doesn't drive them to despair. smile

I agree. It's their job to tell people about the things they want to hear about rather than decide that for them.

Exactly this. News editors determine the headline stuff, everything else is driven by what's trending on social media. Populate your news programming with stuff people are already talking about and you attract more viewers and ultimately in a round about way, more advertising revenue....or justification for what you get from the licence fee.

Domestic abuse against men is vastly under recorded and under reported. Many of the social media comments surrounding this particular story are even making light of it.
I'm pleased the subject is being highlighted and brought to a wider audience.

It drives me to despair that crap like this is deemed newsworthy.

I must admit I hadn’t considered the male abuse side of things, but the way it’s being reported that’s not even raised sadly, it’s just like a large PR exercise for Ms Flack. Having been on the wrong end of a relationship with a person suffering from a severe personality disorder I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

Not forgetting that Flack has what is, what some might suggest, an unconventional approach to relationships. Notably her previous friendship with Prince Harry and her attraction to younger males, especially the pop star Harry Styles who was 17 compared with her 31 years when they dated.

Some might say such a character is newsworthy even if only for the gossip aspect.

Flack was in court today (23rd) where she denied the charge of assault.
The prosecutor, Katie Weiss, alleged Flack hit her boyfriend (Lewis Burton) over the head with a table lamp while he slept causing "a visible cut to his head".

In a not unusual twist in suspected domestic abuse cases, Burton has withdrawn his support for the prosecution.

Flack will face trial on March 4th.

BBC article said:
The court heard how Mr Burton made a call to 999 in which he was "almost begging the operator to send help".

Ms Weiss replied: "Mr Burton is a victim, he received significant injury to his head."

Ms Weiss told the court Ms Flack was disruptive while in police custody, saying she flipped over a table and had to be "restrained on the ground".
