All this heartache over Brexit, when all that needed to happen was for the UK to introduce proposals that would allow judges to be dismissed if they questioned the government's judicial reforms!

There's already a 'meanwhile in Poland' thread which has documented the governments attempts to usurp the democratic process and secure themselves in power forever. Certainly if you don't believe in an independent judiciary then it's one way to rub the EU up the wrong way whilst undermining your own constitution.

Fortunately for Poland the people love the EU with over 90% approval ratings so this is just the supreme court pointing out what could happen but probably won't. There are plenty more sanctions the EU could put in place to defend the democratic process within Poland such as suspending the countries EU voting rights and perhaps more effectively cutting the flow of EU funds.

Leaving the EU is easy, leaving whilst retaining some benefits is trickier.

You do wonder if the EU would have taken the same approach if Poland had been a net contributor to their funds.

Wonder why? laughrolleyes

I shall assume that the other 10% have all decided to come and join us here in the UK. biggrin

(That's not a criticism btw. If I lived in Poland and was Eurosceptic. I'd come here .)

Talk to many UK resident Poles and they'll tell you of their dislike for Donald Tusk, and that no amount of EU Bribery will change their view of him or the EU biggrin
