I was sitting on a train earlier opposite a smart chap wearing a bi-metal tank shaped watch. It looked very good.

I again started pondering how yellow gold watches look great on smartly dressed people. However the proliferation of white metal watches suggests that others don’t share my opinion.

It’s either that or I am, again, ahead of the curve. wink

So am I alone or does anyone else think we may see a resurgence in popularity for yellow gold watches?

I really enjoy my bi metal Sea Dweller, think the extra gold adds interest to the watch and has ensured I’ve used it a lot this year. Bi-metal for me is a great balance between not too flashy and not too plain, I really like it!

Meanwhile I think the Day Date in gold is just spectacular, so opulent. It is flashy as watches go, and I’ve had a fair few comments about it in both professional and social situations. Of course most people will have no idea, but a surprising amount do. So it depends if you are comfortable with that.

But I also love many steel and white metal watches, even rose gold too. There is a time and a place for any metal IMO, it’s great to have a collection with a bit of everything.

I wear a bi metal and blue sub as a dressy watch.

Tried on a yellow gold day date last week in Gran Canaria and was blown away with it. 36mm mind. Really stunning watch.

36mm is a good size for the Oyster on many men. Most watches are too big now IMHO.

Really nice, I would actually consider adding the rose gold bi metal. Had the full rose gold GMT before but wasn’t for me, not at that money anyway, so didn’t keep it long. But the bi metal would make more sense.

Oof, that DD is lovely. I'm tempted, but not sure if I could pull it off.

I have a bi-metal DJ, which is a good middle ground as you say.

Gold watches do absolutely nothing for me.
I own 4 vintage gold watches (2 X Omega, 2 X Gruen) but they very very rarely get worn.
Have to say gold somehow looks cheap to me.

The gold day date is a classic watch.... maybe a bit of a mug magnet, but spectacular all the same. I have been tempted over the years, but have resisted.

Bluesy owner here, I love the gold on it, even though it seems more unpopular these days. Gives it a bit of a vintage more luxorious feel, whereas my SS sub is still very nice but doesn't feel as special as the bluesy.

The SS is a lot more tempting to wear often though as it suits more casual occasions whereas if I wear the bluesy casually I feel a bit ostentatious laugh

Thats the one.

Stunning watch. My missus has OK'd a Day Date for my retirement present to myself in 3yrs. Gadz she's a keeper !! lol.

Green face looks stunning, as does the gold face. Choices choices.

That’s truly horrendous, looks like it came out of a Christmas cracker, and yet, I somehow sort of like it…

Possibly, but I think I associate gold Rolexes (Roli?) with a rather gaudy look. The people who spring to mind are Del-boy, the London dartist Bobby George, and my best mate from school’s dad. He had a scrap yard.

Also, having read the alarming thread about the poor fellow who was mugged in London for his watch recently, I wonder if these are just too obviously expensive? Although I suppose that might be the idea.

I prefer white colored metals for myself. They suit my lighter skin complexion better. However, my mother is darker skinned than me and I just picked her up a yellow gold Daytona which suits.

+1. And not only that, the weight and tactile wonderfulness of it before you put it on is magnificent.
