Hi there,
I have been looking at differnt kit cars.
I started looking at the motorbike engine ones. Ie the Tiger B6. But unfortunately I am 6'1 and wide with it.
The tiger was too narrow. So I took a visit to Dax in Harlow and managed to fit in the LWB and a rush MC (due to the extra 2" leg room).
However the Dax's are at the top end of my budget.
I have found a Rush MC with a Honda Blackbird engine (with dry sump). I am a little worried about the durability of the engine, as I will have very little money to fix/replace it if it goes pop.
Should I buy it?
Cheers

You'll get a lot of replies by asking this on the Yahoo BEC list, lots of people on there running Blackbird engines. Not got one myself but apparantly, assuming the oiliing is sorted out they are pretty reliable.
Just change the oil regularly (2000-3000 miles) and use a quality oil like Redline, no Magnatec or similar sludge and warm up/cool down properly and it should give years of good service.
Edited to add that I'm 6'2" and fit in a Rush fine.

Woodsie,
If you're 6'1" you will fit in a standard Rush no problem. Mines a standard car and i'm about the same height as you. As long as it doesnt have the Dax squab seats in it you'll be fine.
I've been in a Blackbird powered Rush and it is very quick but bloody hard work. If you're willing to put up with the driveability issues with a BEC then i'm sure you'll love it.
cheers,
ss

2/ Why are BEC harder to drive than a normal car engine?
Combination of a few reasons.
1) Clutch is more on-off than a typical car clutch, and lots lighter too (designed for finger use, not foot use).
2) Engine has far less low-down torque so needs more revs and clutch slip to get going (see 1) above)
3) Bike gearboxes are sequential dog boxes, so magical fast clutchless changes when the engine's revving and the car's moving, but a bit clunky at lower speeds.
You get aclimatised quickly to all of the above though and it isn't an issue after a few miles, in fact on track/fast road the light clutch/clutchless changes are great
I used to hire my megablade out and it only took folks a few goes round the pit lane and a few laps to become familiar. WB
I'd agree with the above, you can change the clutch master cyclinder size to get a better clutch feel, use stronger springs and on the Hayabusa, there's a £150 bit that replaces the slipper clutch centre which works really well.
Around town they can be a little more jerky than a car engined car but once you're doing 50mph they tend to be smoother as well as usually faster too
