Mk4 GTI power issue & cutting out whilst driving.
Discussion
Apologies if this has been asked 100 times before!
I have a mk4 Gti (2001) and having some power issues.
Started misfiring recently and went into limp mode. Replaced the coil which wasn’t working and was all good. However, a few days later I was driving and it suddenly shut off. Didn’t pay too much attention and just started it up and carried on again. Happened again 5 mins later as I was going around a roundabout! Power steering loss and engine switched off.
Rarely I’ve experienced 1st and 2nd gear shudders violently whilst pulling away and can’t accelerate above 3000rpm. I have to shift back down and back up then it decides it wants to go above 3000rpm.
I have checked battery and it’s currently holding ok but the multimeter is reading a little low when the engine is running. My other thought is the alternator is not working correctly.
I’ve also noticed the indicator no longer flashes when I lock my car, only when I open it. Thought it was a faulty door lock and was the explanation to the power drainage but all doors and boot lock and unlock using the fob.
Any information would be appreciated!
