Morning all!

I'm looking for some suggestions for my next motor, to be purchased reasonably soon.

It needs to be of a reasonable size, camping gear, work stuff, etc, but not huge as my wife doesn't like 'big' cars, she'll be driving it quite often too. Preferably not a saloon due to limited loading space, but any body style considered. 4/5 doors & a boot required.

I usually favour economy over performance, certainly nothing under 35/40mpg, but the higher the better, whilst hopefully having an element of enjoyability to drive. (I don't think I'm in hybrid territory, but the thought appeals).

I'm not really a spanner monkey, so reliability is good!

I do about 12k a year, a good mix of short journeys & longer motorway jaunts. Currently drive a 1.4 td Kia.

I'm kind of allergic to poverty spec cars, the more toys the better. A premium sound system would be the icing on the cake!

The newer the better, and this will be a keeper, so prefferebly no high-milers.

Budget is £10k max, a bit less would be nice.

Am I asking too much?

Interesting one that, thanks. Not considered one. Not sure if a decent one is in budget, but on the radar now.

Any others come to any ones mind?

I've recently bought my Dad a 2016 Fabia Monte Carlo estate with 110bhp for £8,000

£20 road tax, mid fourties Mpg, nippy, Bolero sound system, nicely equipped for a cheap car.

It's about the same size as a MK3 Golf so not as small as one would think.

Non ST Focus Estate. Can get a Titanium X spec of the last gen at very low mileage at 10k. Good to drive as well.

Maybe an Octavia or v60 with a few more miles.

Could get a decent Subaru Legacy as well but might be a bit big.

Lexus GS? Hybrid has a small boot but the rest are spacious and not massive.

Some great suggestions there, thank you!

Everything about the 308 looks great. Even considering the hatch, as well as the SW.

Are they reliable?

Hard pressed to look away from another Kia, especially as I'd still be getting manufacturers warranty with a lot of cars in budget.

They're very reliable & feel a bit of a step up in interior quality compared to the Kia although saying that both are nice places to be.

Also you may well be able to extend the Manufacturers warranty, for me I'd find it hard to look bast the GT with it's extra grunt & the spec but try one out as I have found some customers don't like the layout.

For me the top 3 is:

308 GT: You benefit from this car not having the right badge as it pretty much ticks every box
Focus: Titanium Best Steer
Astra Elite Nav: You'll get a years manufacturers warranty which you can extend

The Kia just loses out because of the interior being slightly behind compared (& you're budget won't get you the updated model) but it does counter 4 years worth of warranty & it's still a nice place to be, I'd go for a 4Tech over a GT Line though.
