Firstly thank you all for your wise words.

I am still going to buy a tuscan, like my wife said I've always wanted one and if I don't get one now before little G9egs come along then I never will.

So,I keep reading about warranty's/warranties?
What I would like to know is can I get warranty on a tuscan after buying one privately, what price bands are there, and who do you recommend.

Thanks G9eg

do a search through the forums.

I've got one with warrantyworks:

www.warrantyworks.co.uk/

can I recommend them ? Not really.. no more than any of the other tight as a ducks arse insurance companies anyway.

saying that they have paid out for things like my heater ECU going and my speedo sensor packing up, so I've probably about got my cash back out of it.

But when the engine went bang and it needed a rebuild they wouldn't entertain it.

they are cheap though (700 quid for 3 years).

Like them all they will say they will pay the required labour cost, but then won't when it comes down to it.

And I've not seen any other tales of other warranties being any more likely to payout on a rebuild (they will claim it is wear and tear).

the AA is a good bet if you just want 500 quid of cover a claim as it's cheap.

warrantywise also do it but cost a fortune.

Plenty folk will tell you to save your money, but it's about risk at the end of the day, you can say that about any insurance policy.

I'm glad I've got it, and it'll make the car easier to sell if it's still got a warranty on it.

Just don't buy it as insurance against a rebuild.

I've just put another two years on mine with Auto Protect who will cover up to the purchase price of the car. I know the chap who I bought the car off used it for some gearbox and clutch work and had no problems with them covering the cost. When I spoke to them on the phone they said that all mechanical failure was covered except the usual "wear and tear", surely a second rebuild with only 23k on the clock cannot be constituted as wear and tear!!

Regradless of rebuilds (dont want to turn this into a long ranting thread!) I think a warranty will help with resale and is piece of mind for those niggly things that always rear their ugly heads after a massive month of overspending down the local boozer (i.e.electrics etc)

IMHO I would always go for a car with rather than without

Thanks for both advice, but are there any insurances that actually cover a rebuild,or am I wishing.

Safe of buying a new one it's hard to tell.

My philosopy is

1. Cast all doubt of rebuilds aside

2. Buy Tuscan

3. Smile (the bigger and wider the better!)

4. Laugh at people who spend £60k plus on Porkers to speed up to you on the M4 so they can take a look at your Tuscan (and get winked at by their Female passenger!)

5. Smile

Hey G9eg,
If i understood the other thread properly then you are in the market for a bargain. I was in the same boat and bought a 2000 4.0 standard spec.

It is possible and highly desirable that you source one with a post 2002 rebuild, preferably by the factory or by TVR Power. I found one.

I have much faith in my engine as a result of this and it has never let me down. I put the money i would spend on a warranty into a savings account, just in case. So far i'm a grand up!

I'm not sure that any policy other than one from a main dealer will pay for a rebuild. I didnt have the money to pay main dealer prices. Happy hunting.

yes. Henley will do you one. But you need to get the car inspected by them, etc first. And it costs a fortune.

Otherwise no. They will always claim wear and tear because.... it IS wear and tear... the fact that it has worn out because the finger followers or valve guides were made of playdo don't change the fact that they have in fact worn out. So no, no warranty will pay for a rebuild unless something has actually broken (i.e. say a pistonrod broke or something). But actual breaks like this are rare on speed 6s.

I think the best warranty against engine failure is to stick about 3 grand in a savings account. The real cost of the rebuild is higher than this, but most people manage to come to an agreement with TVR to share the costs.
