Went to fire up my Caterham as its not run for a month today. I knew the battery would be flat and Id have to jump it off the daily.
Was in no rush, but being clumsy, I managaed to snap the key off in the locking bolt.

Luckily, I managed to get the bolt out undamaged, and I do have a spare key.

Any ideas how to get the broken piece out ?

Cut down a junior hacksaw blade into a point. The teeth should grip the snapped key blade and pull it out.

Carefully superglue something to it and pull it out?

Have you got a socket that it would fit in and allow the blade to pass through the hole in the middle?

If so tape the barrel into the socket then throw it at the ground as hard as you can, making sure the socket hits the ground first. There may be enough momentum for the blade to come out. Or i may just be talking complete rubbish, worth a try though.

Hmmm, sounds similar to the idea above of cutting down a hacksaw blade....

You need momentum, give it a try. Could always put a car mat down if worried about damaging anything.

I’d go into locksmith A on Monday morning, suggest that locksmith b couldn’t do it and it was impossible

Stand back and watch the alphas perform

Can you get a straightened paper clip down the groove in the key? If so, make a slight bur on it and carefully drag it out.

Ordinary sewing pin?

Otherwise, how tight was the key? If you tap it repeatedly and sharply on a hard surface would it work its way out?

No it isn't, almost certainly. It's just a matter of how much bother / expense you go to in order to sort it out.

It looks far enough out to work it out with the tip of a Stanley knife blade.
