Reg’s new M2 Competition
Discussion
Picked this up just over a week ago. M2 Comp in Hockenheim silver with the DCT gearbox & a few options. Embarassingly, I’ve not driven it much yet due to work & other commitments, but first impressions are excellent. The engine is a peach, of course, but the chassis tweaks make it feel significantly better than the previous M2 and worlds apart from my M135i.
Very happy so far! Youtube video to follow as soon as I get a free day.

Oh, and lighty-up seat badges are my new favourite useless thing,

That is lovely!
Such a strange colour too, it almost looks completely while in one of your pictures yet obviously silver in the other. It’s one of the few silver colours I’d ever consider
Enjoy
yes, don't crash it. That colour would be a mare to matchSuch a strange colour too, it almost looks completely while in one of your pictures yet obviously silver in the other. It’s one of the few silver colours I’d ever consider

Looks lovely! DCT over manual an easy choice?
If I’d have placed the order myself I’d probably have gone for a manual, but it was a pre-reg with some other nice options & quite a bit of money off and I do really like the DCT gearbox:https://youtu.be/IUdZoUxwGiI
I’ve not driven the M2 Competition much recently for obvious reasons, and it seemed to take me an age to get it up to the time for its running-in service, but it clicked over 1,200 miles last week and keyworker status meant I could get it booked in & serviced.
During the running-in period, the advice is to stick to a 5,500rpm limit until the engine & diff oil have been changed. As such, my initial impressions about the car were based mostly on the chassis & diff & the relationship between the two which makes this such an interesting handling car.
The engine is very strong up to 5,500rpm of course, but with the rev limit raised to 7,600, it’s now the engine, rather than the chassis that really dominates the driving experience. Those extra 2,100 revs make such a diference!
It’s just a shame I can’t drive it for more than my commute for the time being. I’ll stick the cameras in & film an update video one day this week, but in the meantime, this is how it’s looking at the moment following countless washes & polishes...

Looks great Reg! Did you go straight to this from your M135i or did you have a standard M2 in between? What was your verdict on the M135i in the end? Asking for a friend
Went straight to this after the M135i. I loved it - did 35,000 miles over 3 1/2 years & it was a very capable hot hatch. The rear damping wasn’t brilliant & (in hindsight now I have a locking one) the open diff didn’t really do it any favours, but it was a very quick & useable car with a lively, lovely-sounding engine & nice stable RWD handling.
I’ve driven quite a few standard M2s & always liked them, but they were essentially a slightly faster, slightly better handling version of the M135i.
The M2 Comp, on the other hand, is significantly better in pretty much all respects. Chucking in the S55 engine makes it a genuinely quick, “proper” M car!
ETA, “My” M135i is up for sale in Peterborough, of all places:

Thanks Reg, appreciate the insight. Hoping a M135i/M140i will be on my shortlist in a year or two so very helpful! Common objections seem to be damping and open diff, but both can be rectified.
That's quite the jump to the M2 Competition, glad to hear you're enjoying it and look forward to seeing more updates. £15K for your old car seems like a pretty good price too!
