'Water Wetter'

In preparation for the sprint down to Le Mans next week, I was thinking about getting some of the 'Water Wetter' stuff that Leven supply - in order to aid the cooling on my Griff.

Has anybody used this and does it make any difference ?

Used it in the Chimaera and the S before that... certainly seems to work... the indicated temperature sat lower on the S after adding it.

Had it fitted since day one in the Chimaera... along with the Leven cooling kit (lower temp stat).

I'll give it a go. I've already got the lower temp stat and otter switch,so hopefully a nice cool trip to Le Mans.

Please remember Water Wetter will only help/improve the efficiency of the cooling sytem. It cannot sort out faults. It is a good thing to have it in the cooling system during the summer in case we get some good weather or you get caught in traffic jams.
And as to 'does it work' the 2 TVR LeMans cars ran with it in the cooling system last year!

Just adding my agreement with the above. I put it in the Chim for the summer seasons. Being the sad git I am I took the car for a drive before adding it (any excuse) and did the same route 2 hours later with wetter. I did spend noticably more time under 90 degrees and the temp drops quicker once you get the car moving again after jams.

Just my 2 pennies worth.....

That's difficult to follow. Surely if it improves heat transfer then an unfortunate side effect will be that warming up will take longer?

The combustion chambers warm very quickly for obvious reasons but the water keeps them cool until it rises to operating temperature. Adding the water wetter reduces the time it takes the water to reach the desired temperature and the engine thermostat prevents any circulation to the radiator until it is warm so little danger of "wasting" this accelerated heat gain.

Used this stuff in the race engine and it did make a difference - a big difference.

One thing worth noting is that in your average road car the water wetter will only return the coolant to about the same "efficiency" as pure water. In a race engine you take the antifreeze out and run pure water anyway - putting the water wetter into pure water gives the best results

it works.

improves, doesn't repair.

should drop by 2 degrees or so, 5 in extreme temps.

(also make sure your antifreeze mix is right. its often WAY too high to ensure anti-corrosion, which drops system performance. mix can be dropped in summer)
