Tesco withdraws Christmas cards from sale after forced labour claims

Whether this is a hoax or not, how many of us know, or care, where our goods come from? Not having a go at Tesco, all companies will source production to the cheapest supplier with the most acceptable quality, and it seems they have been blind sided by this, I'm sure if it's true they were unaware of the situation. Existential consumerism is probably something few of us think about, the intricacies of production, supply, demand, working conditions. Should we give more thought to the end products journey or us this an inescapable fact of life?

Is being forced to pack Christmas cards really that bad? Who are we to say - perhaps they have the right idea and make their prisoners do something useful unlike us here in the uk. I’ve had worse jobs.
It's certainly better than being an involuntary organ donor as some prisoners on death-row were alleged to be in China some while ago. To qualify for capital punishment in under their regime may not be too hard... It’s FAKE NEWS.
These Chinese workers can now revert to doing nothing and earning nothing,
I’m sure they’ll be happy.
Why do we feel the need to stick our noses into other people’s affairs?
What’d happen If a Qatar company said they are going to investigate the UK as we pay income tax.
Chinese workers are none of our business and as I said earlier, the note is fake

On the face of it I agree with getting prisoners to actually do something practical and productive but the reality in China is that they are not in prison for an actual crime as we would define it, rather a thought crime or simply being the wrong faith.
They don't really get basic care, like actual food, or medicine and working hours are often very long
We are too cushy here, they are too far the other way.

Well you don’t really know the conditions or working hours, so it’s hard to make a comparison. We source some components from China and insist on UK style working conditions, but there are plenty of places using non prisoner labour with terrible conditions. I doubt the prison conditions are any better.

How do you know it’s fake?? And what in the name of Beelzebub has forced labour in China got to do with us paying income tax?? These Chinese workers can now revert to doing nothing and earning nothing,

The bloke named was apparently in the named prison. Do you think the family buying the card made it up or the card factory employees knew who this bloke is and made it up? These Chinese workers can now revert to doing nothing and earning nothing,
