Before i get a 993, do you guys find your cars are targets for all the dins out there to scratch, as the cars always stand out from the fords etc????

Iain,

I am picking up my first Porsche this weekend, a 993 C4S and have the same concerns.

My philosophy on this is why should the mindless few prevent us from having our dream car, which we have all worked hard to purchase.
This does not mean I will be anything but furious should damage occur, but I will be carefull when parking and try to avoid shopping trolleys etc.

A relation of mine has driven Porsche for 20+ years now and it may give some comfort to know that the only damage sustained has been in supermarket car parks, even though he parks well out of the way, someone still manages to park close and an occasional dent has appeared.
Accident or deliberate...???

Hope you find what you are looking for and have endless enjoyment.

Heh - I had a '98 993 C2S for a few yrs, I sold it this time last yr.

A couple of yrs ago I parked it up in Oxford (Summertown, just down from the BMW garage for those that know it). Some friends parked around the back of a dark building. I didn't like the look of the place so I said I would park on the rd, which I did, right under a street lamp just 30' from the place we were eating.

Came out after 1hr so find it covered in paint stripper, it had just nicely got down to the metal. Worst thing of all was I had only had it back a couple of days after a slight ding and it had undergone a FULL respray.

However that was the only trouble I ever had in 5yrs, so don't worry too much!

At the end of the day I thought about it as I saw the car and just laughed! I didn't want to look pissed off if they were still watching me...

I still smiled as I drove home, at the end of the day you're driving a Porsche, the guy that did my car was probably sitting on the late night bus on the way back to his bedsit. The joke was really on him!

However, now I've sat here and recalled the situation I have failed to recoupe my previous light hearted attitude and ruined my evening with pent up anger! heh. Typical.

i had the badge removed from the bonnet this w/e by the local hoodrats fortunately i;m told the badge is relatively easy to remove so as to avoid damage to the rest of the bonnet.

Local OPC quoted me £110 to put a new one on....Tower Porsche said £30 and "we dont charge labour for stuff like that"....made a pleasant change from OPC's £110/hr labour attitude...a small but silver lined cloud nonetheless.

I know the dilemma. It is a two-edged sword. You park the Porsche well away from other cars for safety, but that in itself attracts cars to park there because they assume, safe for a Porsche, safe for a Ford.

You stupid sheep! Bug off!

yeah, what is it with these people? You park miles from anyone in a half empty car park and some git in a Fiesta bangs his rust bucket next to yours, leaving dents in your car where he's shoved his doors open. Wtf?

The only damage ive ever had is when i left my 1 week old car with the opc for a week for warranty work,
They returned it with a dent in each door panel where they had parked it too close to other car doors.

Vandalism is nothing new.....

My old boss had paint stripper poured all over the roof and bonnet of his brand new, three day old pale yellow Jensen Interceptor Mk 111 in Stockport, way back in 1973.

Bastards.....

Clearly you guys are missing the point of parking as far from the front door of the supermarket as possible - i do this so that i can take up two spaces and no-one can complain.

Helps if you park it slightly diagonal as well.

Exactly. It was no doubt the loser's attitude and lack of intelligence that got them into that way of thinking and lack of success in life in the first place.

Viscious circle.

Just laugh at their sadness which is, by their actions, thoroughly deserved.

Been lucky so far, but it's comforting to know that I'm not the only neurotic Porsche owner.

I too always park some distance from the shop in supermarket car parks and am always amazed when some prat parks right next to me.

For goodness sake, don't let it put you off owning one though - that would definitely be one up for the morons!

I recently saw an absolutely MINT 1970's Lamborghini Espada GT parked at 9.30pm on a relatively unlit carpark in the centre of Leicester. Noone around. I bet the driver was really enjoying his dinner. I almost stuck around to look after it

Fact of life... own any nice car that the numptys are envious of and you should expect at some point to get it scratched. As long as you can accept this then when it does finally happen you will be safe in the knowledge that a) you have had a good run, and
b) it can always be painted again.
I've had various Porsches and lived in some less than desireable places over the years and to date I have only ever had one car damaged and that was by a neighbours kid who fell against the car on his bike !!
Nowhere is ever truly safe. I remember a few years ago being at a PCGB weekend and a chap with a Gemballa GT3 600 and a GT2 being keyed whilst left on the display overnight !!!!
Tip is, expect it to happen, and when it does you will be 'less' disappointed.
Now, wheres my keys I'm off to look for some modded corsas

The supermarket park is a problem..

My view is that, if you park in an isolated spot, someone will deliberately park right next to you and close to your drivers door, just as a wind up, or so that they can have a good nose..

I try and find a space, where the car on either side is nice and straight and is decent looking, def no kiddie mpvs..

I know this sounds easier to say, but you get lucky, or if not happy with park setup, will either rush around, or not go full stop.!

To be honest, if I have to go somewhere and am not sure of parking, will take another car, or and this has really pissed of missus, have just said I'm not leaving my car there, we're going somewhere else.

I'm with VS on the supermarket car park issue.

I always park away from the entrance, usually across the white line between two spaces, and have never had a numpty park next to me.

I really like the diagonal thing though...

..hope you guys are confident.. diagonal parking across 2 bays, is def gonna wind someone up, especially if they struggle to find a bay..

IMO that is asking for a key or trolley down the side.!

That's the point - when you're that far away from the front door there are plenty of spaces. I should also add that i don't go to the supermarket at busy times (6pm weekdays for example). If you go at 9pm there are always lots and lots of empty spaces, so why should anyone get wound up?

If you take up 2 spaces it angers people even more.....more chance of damage to your car

I tend to find (touch wood!) that the sort of numpty who would key a car can't be bothered to walk to the farthest corner of the carpark.
