Hi all
I've an approx 3 year old laptop that is currently running Windows 10 ( upgraded from Windows 8)
It has a webcam, but I've never used it...until a few days ago, when family member wanted to 'visual phone call' me via Facebook.
I had the instruction whether I wanted to allow camera and microphone which I agreed to....and visual phone call happened smile

After great success, I thought it would be easy to replicate what had happened, but no. Now it seems I have a hardware error which doesn't allow me to have a visual phone call. Could anyone suggest what might be the cause?

I have googled the error messages and can confirm that I have on Facebook settings that I allow camera and microphone. Also on Chrome, the browser I use, that Facebook is the only allowed site to access Camera and microphone. ( I only have a survey site blocked on camera, which I hadn't realised was blocked - but otherwise everything else seems fair game)

As an aside, I do have a one drive sync error, which I have no idea what that means - but might it have something to do with it?

Can anyone suggest what I can do to fix this fault -as I would really like to do a video call to family member on Christmas Day?

What are the error messages you see?

If you open the camera app on it's own does it fire up the camera?

Failing that and it is broken, webcams are ten a penny and not expensive. Buy one and plug it in via USB. I'd rather the standalone option anyway but i'm paranoid about my cameras being controlled remotely, but that's just me smile

A black screen and a red video camera and microphone icon with a strike through both of them.
Then in white script - An error occurred while trying to get access to the camera and/or microphone.
Then in red script - Hardware access error.
Back to white script - To make a call you need to turn on your camera and microphone on. This will let people see and hear you during the call.

The problem being, that I think I have the camera and microphone switched on, and can't see what I'm doing wrong.
