Carnewal Exhausts
Discussion
Well quite disappointed with my Carnewal backbox replacement.
The sound is good, but the condition of what I swapped and what I got left a real sour taste in my mouth.
I have a 2006 C 2.7 with 55k on it in immaculate condition and history. I wanted a little more noise and read all the great reviews for Carnewal exhausts and specifically the replacement back boxes (exchange).
So I took the plunge, i can't work on the car in the drive so I let my local spanner man handle it.
He called the day my "refurbed exchange back box arrived" and asked me if I was sure I want to get rid of my back box in excellent condition for something that looks like it came from an ebay write off.
I said yes, it's fine.
After he cleaned the new box up which has clearly done a lot more miles than my "like for like replacement" and patched a few holes told me that I sent something in near factory condition away for something that has been reworked internally which is fairly easy to do as it transpires.
I can't fault the noise, just don't like the fact I didn't get like for like in terms of at lease condition and having to clean it and patch a few areas of the supplied one was a bit annoying.
I just should have managed my expectations better around what to expect. For the same money their are other options available that I wish I explored first.
Just a heads up to people considering the exchange program on their cars, it does sound excellent and they are great to deal with, but it is an exchange program and luck of the draw so just bear that in mind.

I think that is the thing, the service was excellent the post sales debate at the time were cordial.
As I said, I turned over a very very good condition part for one that delivered on the noise and service but the underlying quality will be a different thing when I’ll have to replace it in a year or two.
Again I should have managed my own expectations better especially considering the quality of my car and the way I want to keep it.
It’s a luck of the draw situation but in future I’ll ask my mechanic first before diving in.

You can send your own in. I did, had it modded and sent back.
Bit late now but you should have just done that. The silencers on most 14 year old 911s with 55k miles on them would have been shot to pieces! When I had mine done, they weren't eligible for exchange as they were splitting but I got some nearly new modded ones for something like 900 euros which was very cheap.
