Seems as I’ve just ordered one of the discounted SuperDuke r’s, I think I should get a new lid. Turns out my Schuberth s1 is from 2008 when I bought a morini Corsaro.

What’s the quietest lid going? Helmet city have a schuberth SR2 with £350 off at £250 quid. However I’m thinking sports Touring might make more sense than sport?

I think Schuberth are the quietest ones on the market...

Get some decent earplugs and problem solved?

This is the solution imho, no such thing as a helmet which won't eventually damage your hearing.

Nope, start off with a nice quiet helmet, the right shape and design for upright riding. Then add plugs!

Schuberth always score well for noise, but there is not a helmet made (yet) that reduces the noise enough to ride without for ear plugs for any length of tiime safely. I find a chin curtain makes a big difference to noise and both my Shark Race R pro and Evo one 2 helmets have those as standard

Hopefully sometime in future the active noise cancelling headphone tech will make it into helmets, some being tested here

I had the same requirement (new lid and the primary feature was for it to be quiet)

I settled on the Shoei GT-Air which gets rave reviews for its quietness. They are good value while they last. The 'Air 2' has just been released, so the original is on a good discount.

First off always always always wear earplugs.

I wear a Shoei NXR on my Street Triple and find the noise level is absolultey fine, I do wear ear plugs.

The 'racier' helemts tend to be noisier as they have bigger vents. Any Sports/touring desgined helmet should be good but as usual fit is also important. A helmet that doesn'y fit properly will be noiser than one that fits snuggly and correctly.

I did read decent things about those.

You may wish to consider.Helmet picked for comfort first and foremost. Then add earplugs. The really good ones that you have made to ones ears. I could wear a dustbin with mine and it be quiet.1

I don't like ear plugs...

I try find a decent lid with a good seal on the chin piece and a good fit at the bottom around the jaw

My shark speed r was so good I bought a second one but after 4 years I decided to try after recommendation from a few the new carbon LS2 (I think it's called)

Not sure on it yet. Seems great apart from left side only due to black drop down visor switch being there which seems to bring in a lot of noise

I'll probably get flamed for this - but the quietest helmet I have is a Davida open face. Probably only a summer option in the UK but very quiet compared to anything else I've ever tried. Oh and get some custom made ear plugs. Those really work...

Agree with this, I also have a street triple and a shoei NXR. I bought the helmet based on reviews of it being quiet. When I got it, I couldn’t really notice any difference to my old hjc is17. It wasn’t till it got a little colder and I shut all the vents and then it really did show that it was quieter than my hjc with all the vents shut.

I don’t tend to wear ear plugs as I’m a fair weather biker , but have done and it really does cut out the noise, even a set of headphones will do a similar trick.

Is there a helmet out there that will stop all wind noise to such an extent you don’t need ear plugs ?
I find that very hard to believe. It’s obviously the riders choice but I’ll take ear plugs every time over tinnitus. Exposure to even slight wind noise over a prolonged time will not do you any good.

My vote is for a GT air. It’s all relative to the individual and there are so many factors involved of course ,but I had a Multistrada with original screen and by god it was turbulent and noisy even with ear plugs in using an HJC helmet initially. Switched to GT Air and vast improvement. Finally also found good screen , so coupled with decent helmet , job was sorted.

I've got the HJC RPHA 90 (I think) and riding on a street triple too. With ear plugs the noise level is pretty low.
Haven't tried without but as always, buy the helmet that fits best

Although not the latest model, I still swear by the Schuberth C3 Pro. Quiet, comfortable, and feature laden. The fact it remains in their current range alongside the newer C4 says much. The C3 Pro also saved my life once already, so yes they do work. Schuberth will also replace for free if you register the helmet with them and you come off in a crash.

I can't even think of why riding with ear plugs is related to weather. What am I missing?

Another vote for Schuberth along with a good set of plugs.

Too many individual variables.

For what it is worth earplugs and a GT Air 2 works very well for me.
