Noisy rad fans

Has anyone found their rad fans getting noisy?

I thought that I would check everything was OK now the hot weather has arrived and I energised the rad fans and found that when one of them was starting to spin up it was very noisy. Noise disappeared after a minute or so.

Can they be greased or is it a replacement job?

I can't think they are worn and need replacing as they almost never turned on even in the hottest weather last year. But it sounds aweful.

They probably have 'oilite'(sp) bearings. These are a sintered bronze but have something else in the mix that retains oil. They dry out over time. If you can get at them they simply need a bit of oil. Even better if they can be removed and soaked in oil overnight.

Or they're rubbing on the radiator vanes?

One of mine did the same. pulled the motor out whilstfan still on rad, lots of oil/WD40 helped for a while, but it soon started squeaking again..
