Mercedes CLS 2007 116k

I’m really attracted to a Merc CLS. I’ve seen a number of 06-09 regs, with around 115-120k mileage, at really good prices. Most have good service history. Does anyone have any experience of buying a CLS this age with relatively high mileage? Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

No experience of buying at that age but I did trade one in a 2007 320CDI in at that mileage 5 years ago.
Despite being from the Daimler Chrysler era, it was certainly one of their better screwed together models and certainly had far fewer problems than our W211 that came before or the W218 that came after. We went out to pick it up from the factory in the days when Mercedes understood what customer service was. It was a great family car and we had some excellent trips over the years.
From memory the main problems were the turbo disintegrating at about 80k (replaced and associated damage repaired under goodwill) and the driver's window regulator wearing out around the same mileage.
We shifted the car on because at that mileage the bushings and general linkages were becoming a bit sloppy. I was ready to put £4k into it to freshen it up and keep it but we were offered a very good deal on a new W218. I could also see the way Mercedes were going with restrictive package options and so took the opportunity to spec a car I'd be happy to keep for the next ten years.
It was a sad day when I took the W219 in the dealer and drove out in the W218. I felt that I'd lost an old friend rather than experiencing the usual excitement of a new car.
Take your time and look for a good one with a decent spec and a proper history. Put aside a couple of £k to keep it fresh and you'll be happy.

Same as above. Had one for 2 or 3 years. V6 320 cdi.

Facelifts lose the SBC braking system which is a few hundred to sort.
I had a 2005 CLS55, lower miles. As above, susp bushes and window regulators, air suspension on some best avoided for cost, they're generally pretty good. Interiors are a lovely place to sit, thought to be better built than the E class, and the W219 still looks better than any of the modern stuff IMHO.
