Anyone know anything interesting about the current 996 GT3’s for sale, two interesting ones at nine excellence, I’m thinking of using as an everyday, I can’t find anything else interesting and have always fancied a 996 GT3, whilst I was younger, I have happily used a 964RS, a tee k prepared E30M3 and M5’s on KWV3’s for every day, so hopefully I won’t find it too extreme.

Seems prices are still quite strong the lower mile very well prepared 996 GT3 at nine excellence has been there since October and was £70k, now £67.5k. I’d be interested in how the KW’s might be for road and every day, very happy with stiff, less happy with crashy. I do want buckets, don’t mind if it’s a Clubby or not really

I nearly did this 15 years ago when they were late 30’s and GT2’s were around £50k....

Depends on the version of KW. V3 Tad firmer than OE but never crashy (and adjustable). Clubsport a fair bit firmer.

Thanks, Paragon are very heavy on pricing, way over ? Reminds me of Hexagon when sourcing M5’s !

I've been on a similar journey and after a significant period of procrastination ended up with a black 996.1 GT3 with a Manthey-Racing K400 conversion. It's a slow market and lots of cars I looked at in the classified in the summer/autumn are still knocking about. I ended up buying privately at the bottom end of the market as the provenance checked out and lots of the mods I'd want were done. It's running on MR spec KW Clubsports, they've just been rebuilt so won't know what they're like until I actually get to drive the car. Probably a bit much for a roadcar, but like OP it all depends on your reference point I guess..

The Paragon cars seem pretty strong on pricing, like you say kinda like Hexagon! I recall also sourcing an E39 M5 and finding a lovely Estoril blue one on <50k miles at a tiny indy dealer. I decided to buy it but it sold minutes before my call. It had been bought by Hexagon and I ended up stumping up a significant premium to secure it after Hexagon had applied a layer of wax and some tyre shine...doh! Should have kept that car it was mega.

One car that came up during my search was a beautiful Speed Yellow one that was at 911V. I went to see it in the summer and it is a beaut and I very nearly bought it. It used to belong to Mr Slippydiff from this forum (as did my K400 funnily enough). I noticed it is now for sale at RPMTechnik, that one has to worth a look, it's lovely.

Thanks the yellow Mk1 looks lovely, I’ve been hankering after a Mk2 as I love the wheels and like the idea of a few extra HP. I also slightly prefer the front lights and spoiler on the mk2

Seems the pricing is pretty similar as well

PS if I had the space I would have kept my F90 M5 competition with KW V3 and Dinan roll bars it was stellar after weeks of mucking around with damper settings, really tight. That thing with engine untouched was really quick, almost unerringly so. A four door family car shouldn’t accelerate like that !

I did 100k miles in an e39 M5 with a heap of Kelleners work on it big AP’s and Bilstein coilovers. I never stopped winding the window down when driving in tunnels !

I prefer the lights on the Mk1 and the extra ponies with mine come by virtue of the K400 conversion. Wheels, well I've ordered some BBS E88, gold centres obv cool

I own a 996 RS and have had both 996.1 and 996.2 GT3's. IMO prices are too high at the momment. 6.2 comforts should be around the 50 mark and CS cars 55. Paragon are having a laugh on pricing - they also have a 964 RS up for sale at 200k plus, when similar cars are selling for 150 to 180K. If you are in teh market now, I'd bid low, nothing is moving.

It should be fine on KW3's, but you may need to adjust the spring the rates, but given your history with M5's you'll no doubt find the experimenting process fun. These cars do need a while for you to find their sweet spot, you can drive 2 and they can feel totally different due to their geo and set up, but once you get it right there is nothing else out there that is as rewarding as them to drive. Good luck with the serach.

Julier,

Thanks, I might pop over to see the two at nine excellence and Ashgood have a GT2 as well as a 996.2 GT3, but the GT3 is comfort spec. Everyone who knows me (I fitted throttle bodies, cams and Motec to My RS, wanted more of a screamer) thinks I'll like a GT3 way more than the GT2, but I keep gazing at 996.2 GT2's with those grogeous late wheels, I've even started to rationalise the £7k for a set

One of the 9e cars is a friend's car. I have seen the other (ontheloop's) and I almost bought it there and then...even though I wasn't looking!

Both are very compelling propositions.

Do KW stand up to daily use including running on salted roads? Having had some manufacturer fitted coilovers in the past I'm not overly convinced of the longevity of a lot of them.

As well as the Cobalt car (other thread), I’ve often wondered about the 996.1 Comfort car at Park Lane. That must have been for sale for well over a year!

Are they all just SOR cars with owners trying their luck?

Both cars are 9e are great cars. The non clubsport car is immaculate you could eat your dinner off the bottom.

v3s can be set up to be as comfy as you like as well.

Also can vouch for Ken he's far from a car salesman and makes sure the cars are mechanically bang on.

Gen 1 perhaps more logical than Gen 2 if you plan on dailying, more supple. On standard springs/dampers and with Cup 2s and track focussed geo, the Gen 2 is on the borderline of being acceptable as a daily IMHO. Obviously if you go aftermarket with dampers you have more options. Note no underseal on 996 GT3s if you plan to use year round.

The yellow Gen 1 at RPM is absolutely mint, well worth a visit. Not mine, but suprised it's still there TBH. Good time of year to buy these cars.
