Hi all.

I'm looking for some advise from any painters and or wrappers that might be about, and what you would do in my situation...

I have a white car that for the past year has had vinyl decals on various parts of it (writing and basic shapes). These were always meant to be temporary, and are due to be replaced with entirely new designs.

However, when taking off the first supposedly removal decal yesterday, it pulled off at least 2 layers of the paint back to the primer.(Don't get me started ). As an emergency fix, I've put replacement decals over the area, but the damage underneath is highly noticeable.

So This leaves me in a situation;
I need to work out the most cost effective solution to get the car to a point where it has entirely new decals on it, whilst making sure that in a year these new decals will be able to be removed without causing a repeat of the damage I experienced this time.

So:
1- Do I rip the rest off and plan on a full respray, then a full wrap afterwards? (Hard too see a point in a full respray if I'm wrapping the car afterwards)

2- Do I rip the rest off and plan a full respray, then just put cutout decals on afterwards?(a full wrap would be better for the visuals I'd prefer, buts pricey especially with a full respray before)

3- Do I instead take extraordinary care and try to take off all the others decals, hope for no more damage, paint repair only the damaged area, and then fully wrap the car?

4- Do I instead take extraordinary care and try to take off all the others decals, hope for no more damage, paint repair only the damaged area, then put only cutout decals on the car?

5- do I rip off the remaining decals, simply smooth down the damaged area only(wrap prep only), then wrap the whole car?

6- do I rip off the remaining decals, smooth down the damaged areas only(wrap prep only), and replace with partial decals on those areas?

Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Based on removing vinyls from commercial vehicles & caravans.
Use a hot air gun to heat the remaining decals & slowly peel them off reapplying heat as required.
A section at a time, not the whole decal in one hit.
Be careful as excess heat will damage the paint.
I prefer to have my ungloved hand in the vicinity so I have an idea of how hot it's getting

Then see what state the car is in - as in how much more paint has come off/difference in shade as the decalled area has been protected from sunlight & proceed accordingly.
