at the weekend and what a difference it makes to the cooling.

Instead of it struggling to get below 90 deg at any time, its often running as low as 80 in moving traffic and the fans aren't coming on half as much.

I guess its only a matter of time before I get pulled for having no front plate, but for the time being its staying off.

Oh, and don't have to panic as much about forward facing speed cameras either, but that was honestly not the reason for removing it.

Get yourself a 3/4 size plate Sooty.
Its not that different to look at (see my profile) but it makes the difference to the temp.
Mine dropped about 5-10 deg after putting it on.
I also attached mine using Velcro so I can take it off easily to get to the driving lights etc and I've not had a problem with it.

Off to work in my P&J today. Aren't Griffs just Luverly

mmmm
Doesn't read quite right with a Black and White photo on there does it.
I was referring to Juniper Green and Sapphire Blue rather than Mrs Green and Mrs Blue. Honest Hoffisher.

Well I'm looking for a decent number plate, so when I find one I'll get a 3/4 size one made up.

But until then I'll leave it off !!

Keep the original one in the boot for if you get stopped by plod. Then you can say it has just fallen off.
Have you considered a stick on bonnet 'E' Type number plate?

The problem with saying its fallen off is that the screws must have unscrewed themselves as well.

I don't like stick-on number plates (apologies to any that have them).

I got a 3/4 size plate from Fancyplates in Ireland too. They look alot better. Just don't get collared.

Surprising which parts of the car suffer from vibration...

Hmm. Sounds as if you have some other problem with the cooling system if it struggles to get below 90 degrees.

Perhaps would agree with Paul...mine usually sits at 80 ish, never seems to go above 90. Perhaps there is no real prob...just wrong reading mebbe? I have full size plata and have been considering smaller but on reading some posts will prob stick with f.size. dont really seem to have any overheating probs.
(hope i now dont regret saying that.....!)

Maybe you just took it off for a photoshoot, trackday, change the air filter, spray some stonechips etc. and forgot to put it back on. Stick on plates illegal on car your age anyway. The penalties for having no plate are less than the penalties for having an incorrectly sized one, if I remember right!

The precat Griffs have a much smaller opening. In fact the no.plate just covers fibreglass so removing it doesn't let any more air in.

My 4.3 (now 4.6) always ran hot especially on track days.So under the plate I drilled 5 large holes. Now I take the plate off for track days and this helps greatly. Sacrilege I know but you don't see the holes with the no.plate on and they can always be fibreglassd back in if nec to get back to original.

Also fitted bigger core rad and oil cooler and this helps. But it's still hot in that cockpit especially on a rare sunny day!
