I have been running Win 2000 Advanced Server at home (websites and game server), with Visnetic Firewall. After a hard drive failure, I have installed a new hard drive and XP Pro SP2. This comes with Windows Firewall.

Should I use this, or continue with Visnetic? If the Windows one is good enough, then I may as well ditch Visnetic and save myself 50 bucks and some system resources.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

For your situation, you would be better off with a small hardware based firewall (sonicwall, etc - something that allows you to manually control ports, connections, even user should you wish). That way you wouldn't be degrading the performance of your machine by piling on additional layers of software.

Just MHO

I've never been comfortable with the idea of running a firewall on the same machine it's protecting, even for personal firewalls. Even at home I run a dedicated seperate firewall.
