Hi everyone,

I have a Mazda 3 three stage pearl that I'm looking to get repaired and I'm looking for advice on how much it should roughly cost? I've had quotes mostly from £200-£360 and one at £582. I'm from the UK, Lincolnshire, does anyone know of any really good places if they've used them or know somebody that has?

Will the bodyshop just repair the damage and paint and fade into the rest of the bumper so I keep the original paint near the rear quarter panels or do I have the whole bumper done. If you have any recommendations of a place, feel free to tell me the place.

Any advice is welcomed, I really dont know what to do and is making me go insane as I want to get the job done perfectly. Thank you.

A 3 stage pearl white bumper and you want it doing perfectly lol
If there's enough room it's common practice to blend the colour and clear the whole panel but with a 3 stage it makes it more difficult.
3 stage whites are notoriously difficult to match

Complete bumper repair and paint.
What are you fretting about?
Bread and butter to a decent bodyshop.

Well surely a decent place should be able to do that right? But it's hard trying to find that decent place.

So you wouldn't have the damage repaired and painted and blended then lacquer the whole bumper? It's trying to find a place that knows what they're doing that's the hard thing.

It's not that simple.... there'll be someone along shortly to tell you all you need is a place with a spectrometer and it will match perfectly lol.

That's exactly my point. From what I've read it's a pain in the arse. But I guess I have to take a punt on going somewhere and hope for the best.

Recommendations is a good place to start just bear in mind most civilians don't know a good paint job from a bad one....and don't mistakenly believe expensive automatically equals quality and vice versa...... although your £200 sounds particularly cheap so I'd be wary of that

I was recommend a place from Mazda dealer but it looked a bit of run down old place which kinda put me off. I've looked on Google for places and checked reviews but still gotta be careful.

Again don't be taken in by a glitzy entrance with TVs on the wall and free coffee.
The cost of that is going on your bill not on the car

What is really the best way of finding the best place to go to though? Is it mistake to go off reviews? Because people I know haven't really had to use a workshop so they cant recommend.

Why not give the place Mazda recommend a go ?
Generally the bodyshops who subcontract for main dealers are pretty decent

I went to the place they suggested and it was a bit run down and untidy which put me off. I went to see them and only got a verbal estimate not even a written one.

All bodyshops are untidy behind the scenes lol.
Most customers are happy with a verbal estimate in my experience.....you sound like a customer from hell lol

I've been told that I'm best to avoid that sort of thing. The thing is when I'm having to pay out nearly £400 of damage that someone else did and I'm having to pay for it. I'm going to be sceptical of where I take it as I want the job done right. Is that not right?

I could do that for you, would be looking at £300 for a complete bumper spray, I am in Leicester so a little out, most body shops these days should be able to sort it for you.

We paint anything from a runabout to top end Porsche’s etc, a bumper is a bumper.

Your concerns have some foundation, white 3 stage pearl can be a pain to get right. My daughter got hit up the arse in her anniversary mx5, did the bumper and the crash bar behind. We found a shop close to where I lived near Basingstoke with a good reputation.

When I went to get it back it was bang on but there were lots of spray out cards with “almost right” layers of paint, pearl and clear until the match was perfect. I would assume pretty much any good painter would take this approach getting pearl weights and clear layers after base correct.
