Wetherspoons payment

Went to Spoons on Saturday, used the app to pay via paypal.

Cost 5.44, have email receipt. I was having a look at my paypal transactions and see a payment pending for 35.05 same date.

All odd, I only bought one order via app, not used it for months. No more email receipts.

Maybe an authorisation for that amount but when the true amount processes, it’ll be the lower amount that gets deducted.

the true amount has gone through, this looks like another amount, but might be the pending amount.

FWIW, I avoid using Paypal on the Wetherspoons app after I kept on getting an order declined.
Tried different cards on Paypal and ended up with about 7 x charges on my various accounts.

Got no response from Wetherspoons themselves but the duplicate charges came back off after several days..

Perhaps it was something else you bought recently which used PayPal? Many retailers offer it as a payment option, sometimes it's directly embedded in their payment page rather than a pop-up and approve thing.

I went to one on Monday evening, haven't been in one for years. It was fine. Clean, spacious but cosy, some interesting people and a really good choice of really good value beers!

Surprised someone would actually want to admit to drinking in a Wutherspoons? Still, at least it seems to keep the local rif raf and the gammons out of or local wine bar.

There is so much snobbery here. Wetherspoons is great. The two I've been in most recently (The Iron Duke, Wellington and The White Bull, Tiverton) have both been spotlessly clean, toilets immaculate and great value for money.

The issue seems to be that if you're not paying over the odds, then it's not very good. Personally I'd rather pay £2.98 for a pint of Heineken in Wetherspoons than £5.80 for a pint of Peroni or Old Buttocks in the local tied house.

Anyway, back on topic...

O.P - maybe you unwittingly 'donated' to Big Tims latest political whim and you failed to notice the T&C's when you entered the establishment.

I find the politicalisation of a PLC by Big Tim reprehensible but I guess 'Spoons has an attraction for a certain demographic.

I wouldn't use one on the basis of his Brexit stance and how vocal he is about it.
