Hi all
After suffering terrible WIFI for the past few months i have bought some Unifi equipment.

What do people suggest i do with carving up the wifi?
Currently i have one SSID which devices and users connect to. But i am thinking about segregating it

SSID 1 - Nest Cameras
SSID 2 - IoT
SSID 3 - Kids
SSID 4 - Users
SSID 5 - Guest

Is this too granular?
How best am i to carve it up

Ubiquiti USG UniFi Security Gateway
Ubiquiti UC-CK UniFi Cloud Key Hybrid Controller
Ubiquiti US-8 Port Managed Desktop Gigabit POE Switch
Ubiquiti UAP-AC-LITE UniFi Dual-Band WiFi WLAN Access Point - PoE
Ubiquiti Unifi AP-AC Pro - Wifi access point

I think that is too granular. Bear in mind the AC lite will likely run low on resources using more than a couple of SSIDs. I simply use 2 SSIDs with my setup - one for everyone in the family and another VLAN with just internet access (no LAN access) used for IoT devices and guests.

Having a separate ssid for the kids is very useful. You can set it up to have restricted hours for example. I wouldn't worry at all about using 3 or 4 ssids. I'm using 4 in my Ubiquiti setup.

One private network and one isolated network for guests. At a push perhaps an IOT network might in some cases be useful, but anything more is bonkers for a home setup!

I think they have a 4 ssid limit anyway unless you split 2.4/5ghz.

Take the 8 port managed switch back as they are known for failing fairly regularly.

Just get a decent unmanaged switch and Poe injectors if needed.

Personally I’d return all of that lot and buy a UniFi Dream Machine instead.

SSID setup is easy, the Firewall rules for VLANs takes a little longer.

Mines been running for over a year with no issues. Maybe I got lucky.

I run 2 SSID. One for us and one for guests. Even that is overkill really.

I've got about a dozen of them dotted around at work in all sorts of harsh environments and none have failed so far.

As mentioned by someone else though I'd be tempted by the Dream Machine instead https://www.4gon.co.uk/ubiquiti-unifi-dream-machin...
But if you can wait for it to hit the UK I'd go for the Alien https://amplifi.com/alien

interesting I run about 30 unifi switches and around a dozen are 8 port poe... not had any fail in a few years...

a bit over kill for a home system, but great if you manage lots of sites..
