PCP showing areas over bank holiday

Hi, my direct debit for my pcp falls on or after the 1st of every month.
Today, January 1st I get an automated notification that I am in arrears and will be charged a £5 default fee unless I pay online.
My direct debit is showing on my account as pending, as is normal on a bank holiday.
My pcp provider did this last year too and charged me a default fee, although by the 2nd my direct debit had cleared and my account arrears had vanished, but they still demanded the fee.
Where do I stand with this? They control the direct debit and there’s ample funds in my account, do I pay a second payment or do I suck it up knowing that’ll I’ll have to pay £5 without reason and risk a default notice on my agreement?
If this does record a default then I can’t VT in April. Where would I stand? If I do send a double payment, can I demand a refund for the extra payment?

That's so ridiculous I'm struggling to believe it's true. What happens when 1st falls on a weekend?I've never heard of such a thing happening - as you say, pulling the DD is in their control, although I can imagine there would be uproar if they took at the end of the previous month because they couldn't take it on the 1st.

They have a new payment system that automatically flags missed payments on the online account to allow you to pay in part or full on that day or splitting over a period of time.
I received the notification in error and no action is necessary on my part.
I feel a bit silly for making the original post but now I can relax knowing that there has been no issue.
