Newbie with newbie question.
I have a '64 reg. X drive 320d M-Sport Plus F31 so it has 403M 19inch alloys.
I'm looking at getting a 66 reg 330i M-Sport F31 so it has 400M 18inch alloys.
My question is, if the dealer is willing, when I trade in my old car would the wheels all just swap over so I can keep my 19inch alloys. My concern being will the 18inch alloys fit over M-Sport Plus discs and calipers? Are the M-Sport brakes chunkier than standard ones so need the extra space afforded by the 19inch alloys?
TIA.

I have just dropped my 335d down from 19” 442 wheels to 18” 398 wheels, they fit over m sport discs and calipers. Check the wheel offset.
See here for BMW wheel overviews.
To be honest, I would keep to 18”, 19” too harsh for UK roads.

I've got a M-Sport Shadow Edition F31 340i with the M-sport brakes. Originally came with 19 inch wheels (don't know the code). For winter, bought a set of 18 inch 400m wheels which, with lots of googling, I knew would fit over the brakes. Indeed, they do fit over the brakes fine.

I don't think 18" alloys fit over the M-Sport/Performance brake calipers. I've got 19"/M-Performance brakes and there's only a small amount of clearance (a lot of aftermarket 19" alloys don't fit either).
Depends on model. IIRC the disks on the 330d/335d/335i/340i with the optional M-Sport brakes have a 370mm rotor like those on the M3 (but not drilled). Those won't fit under OEM 18" wheels, but will some aftermarket ones.
The lower-power models, even with the optional M-Sport brakes, use a smaller 340mm rotor the same as those on the M135i/M140i, which will happily fit under 18" wheels.

So my 320d discs and calipers should fit under the 18inch 400M alloys.IIRC the disks on the 330d/335d/335i/340i with the optional M-Sport brakes have a 370mm rotor like those on the M3 (but not drilled). Those won't fit under OEM 18" wheels, but will some aftermarket ones.

I'll check my discs to see if they are indeed 340mm ones.

Incorrect. My 335d has m sport 370mm rotors and I run the 18” 398 rims (replacing 19”442 rims).IIRC the disks on the 330d/335d/335i/340i with the optional M-Sport brakes have a 370mm rotor like those on the M3 (but not drilled). Those won't fit under OEM 18" wheels, but will some aftermarket ones.

If in doubt, go to BMW accessory website, search wheels, put in your last 7 digits from your VIN and see what they say.
Corrected to read 19” 442 rims.

Just had a quick measure and the discs do appear to be 340mm but there is only about 25mm clearance between the caliper & rim of my 19inch wheels. Going down to 18inch wheels isn't going to leave much space if any??
340 to 370 gives 15mm Increase on radius, ample room for caliper clearance. My 398 wheels on 370mm calipers fit OK, and are an approved fit. They were approved by, ordered from and fitted by BMW dealer, after ordering from BMW website. monty999 said:
Just bought a set of 18" 400M wheels with winter tyres for my 68 plate 320i m sport shadow which has the big blue callipers. They fit fine with no issues, the original 19" are being saved for summer use when you can see the pot-holes coming !!
Excellent answer cheers. I don’t think I can get a clearer answer than this. Miles Safer said:

Right you are- on further research it suggests that all (or at least nearly all) F3* 18" wheels will clear the M-Sport or M-Performance brakes with 370mm rotors.Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
